a trip to marfa

I am planning to go to Marfa and explore southwest texas on a long weekend. I assume the best place to fly into is El Paso? Any special spots to see or stay?

Fort Davis and the McDonald Observatory would be on my list. The observatory is in a really neat location and offers various visitor programs, including "star parties."
Check out mcdonaldobservatory.org

I've always stayed at Indian Lodge in Fort Davis, which is really cool. But Marfa, which has apparently become pretty "hip," is supposed to have at least one or two interesting restored vintage motels.

Check out the Hotel Paisano which appeared in the move Giant with James Dean. I haven't been to Marfa but I have a friend who lives there and he recommended it.

And I'll assume you already know about the Marfa lights, yes? If not, google it. I've always wanted to see them.
