A trip from Pensacola to Miami

Hi Everyone,

I am pretty excited on my upcoming trip from Pensacola to Miami this May from May 20 to May 31st.

I am thinking of doing a road trip from Pensacola to Jacksonville, Daytona Beach, Tampa, Orlando and lastly Miami. I would really love to see a mix of city life, beaches and also possible helicopter rides or sky diving experiences.

I would appreciate suggestions on what the route i can take and how i can plan my trip. I welcome all recommendations on activities, food choices and accommodation for the trip.

If there are better places and i should omit some, i would be more than happy to listen to the advice.

I look forward to hearing from all of you!

Claire

Is there a special reason for wanting to see Daytona Beach?
IMO, it's way overrated. I would substitute St. Augustine for it. St. Augustine is America's oldest city (450 years) and is loaded with history & charm.

Same question for Jacksonville & Tampa. Why do you want to go there?

You could always add Apalachicola and The Everglades.

HI Orlando_Vic,

I would like to know what you would recommend for Apalachicola and The everglades?

Apalachicola is a very small town and just an interesting place to see. It is best known for all the oysters that are harvested there. If you go, be sure to have dinner at the Owl cafe.

The Everglades is Florida's premier National Park.

We'd love to have you in Miami Beach/South Beach but keep in mind that if you plan to be in Miami Beach that Memorial long weekend, the Urban Beach Week will be on, so it's gonna be happening in South Beach! expect crowds & traffic delays starting that Fri evening.

But if you want to visit Miami Beach in quiet, stop by before that long weekend, there's so much to do here... food, nightlife, beaches http://oliom.com/blog/best-beaches-i...cal-favorites/

Enjoy,

I agree re St. Augustine vs. Daytona and am wondering if in the end you might prefer a trip along the Gulf Coast and then the trans-peninsula drive over to Miami. And unless there is something or some THINGS in Orlando you are particularly anxious to see I'd consider bypassing that city as well.

We have driven most of the coast from Maine to New Orleans. Many times.

In all honesty our trip from Miami to Pensacola was our least favourite.

We did the West Gulf coast.

Sanibel and Captiva were lovely.

We really liked Apalachicola and we loved sailing the ICW in Pensacola, great beaches and wildlife.

After that, well we really were not sure it was worth the drive and would probably fly in future.

We were upset to have missed St Augustine but timings just didn't work.
