a toronto/niagra trip
Hi, I live in Greenwich, Ct and was thinking about visiting Niagra Falls and Toronto. My plan was to drive until I am approx 2 hrs from Toronto and spend the night in an inexpensive hotel. Then leave the next morning for Toronto and spend the day and night there. Leave the next morning and drive to Niagra, do whatever needs be done there, spend the night and leave the next morning to drive the 7 1/2 hrs back to Greenwich. Any ideas of what town to stay in on the way up? And what to do for the day in Toronto? And the hotel there? I am travelling with my boyfriend, no kids.
Thanks so much!

Can help you with Toronto, we only drove past Niagara Falls on the way back to CT. Yonge St is the main st (many restaurants / hotels / tourist attractions). I stayed at the Cambridge Suites hotel there (I believe) - it was back in 03.
Sites I went to
1) CN Tower - great viewpoint, even with a glass floor
2) Hockey Hall of Fame
3) Rogers Center (was the Skydome) for a baseball game.
As I said, Yonge St has the restaurants - Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, lots of stores.

You have to go through NF to get to TO. Why don't you stay in Rochester or the finger lakes ex. Skeneatles? There is a lot to do in TO. Seach the Cnada board for posting by BAK. Harbourfront is nice for a walk, ethnic food in Little Italy, the Danforth and Little India. The Kensington market or St. Lawrence market are also great places.

That seems like an awful lot of driving just to barely see anything. But you know your time better than we do.
The first reply was dead on about what to do in Toronto. The CN Tower is a don't miss. The views, the views, the views, plus the glass 'freakin' floor over 1,100 feet from the pavement and don;t forget the elevators that go up on the outside of the building that look like little bugs.
The Hockey Hall of Fame also is pretty fascinating. You could eat at Gretzky's Restaurant, too.
At Niagara Falls, you must ride on the Maid of the Mist. That, IMO, is the only way to experience the sheer power of the Falls. There many other things to do as well-- the Cave of the Winds Tour (I think that's what it's still called) is Awesome, as well, where you walk out on the deck under the American Falls.
Those are just MUSTS. If you don't do those, you're cheating yourself and your boyfriend.
Hope you have fun.
We did the Toronto/Niagara Falls thing back in 1999 and it was spectacular but you probably need more time.

Your order of doing things doesn;t make a lot of sense. You will reach NF BEFORE you get to Toronto (it's about 1.5 hours further). I would just drive to NF, stay there and see that - then drive on to Toronto and stay there.
The drive back directly from Toronto isn;t bad as long as you don;t get stuck at the border.
Just be sure all your ID is in order (official gov't ID with pic plus an original - not copy birth certificate for all - or a passport).
For Toronto hotel I would look at Priceline - friends of mine got a 4* at a very good price. What to see - why are you going? You must have had some idea when you picked it. Has a super tall tower, a couple great museums - but shopping no lnger good snce the $ has tanked.
