A Quick Report on Dinner at Momma Maria's in Boston

We were in Boston and Connecticut for a few days and made a dinner reservation at one of our favorite restaurants in the North End - Momma Maria. We were last there several years ago before Cheryl went gluten free, so we both wondered how it would be for her this time.

It turns out not only does Momma Maria make its own fresh pasta, it makes its own fresh gluten-free pasta. The only pastas not available gluten free there are ravioli.

We started with a shared seared scallops appetizer, followed by duck leg with chanterelles for me and rabbit with chanterelles on Pappardelle for Cheryl. She had a panda cotta for dessert and I had tiramisu. We shared a lovely bottle of Barolo.

I expect we will return the next time we are in Boston.

It's been years. I must put it on our short list. Thank you.

Oh, superb choice. That is far and away my favorite restaurant in Boston's North End. There was a lot of construction going on in the square in front of Mamma Maria's when I passed through a month ago but the area should be soon restored to its normal charming state.

Next time you go if you have not discovered it already -- Right nearby at 173 North Street is a very charming family-run enoteca called Cirace. Several rooms of exposed brick walls, chandeliers, hand-picked wines from different regions of Italy. A charming place to visit and browse, whether or not you shop.

OK, so how WAS the food? As good as you remembered? Better? Worse? The service?

Dukey, the food was as good as we remembered and the service was excellent.
