A Question or two about CVG Airport

And a Fine Fodor Monday to you all!
We are booked to fly to Portland Oregon, in July, on Delta.
We change plans at CVG
* I wish it were CDG but they said no way*
and then on the trip back we change in Atlanta.
On this flight, Atlanta is no big deal, the gates are very close to each other.
But I am wondering about CVG-Cinn/Knoxville..anyone want to tell me about the airport?
I assume it is new. Easy to get around?
I need to feel in control at all times, so knowing about the airport ahead of time will make me happy. Feel free to tell me your experiences and you can tell how you are today too :)
Thanks! Scarlett

The ariport is fairly new, easy to get around and quite small. Of all the places to change - this is one of the least inconvenient.

Hi Scarlett - CVG is acutally Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and is in Kentucky. The airport itself has been around for a while but the Delta terminal which you will be in is new. It is like most airport terminals I've been in - many legs to the various gates off the main center (the "legs" have moving walkways if you don't feel like actually walking). Lots of places to stop and eat in the central area as well as shops there and along the way to gates. I know there is a Starbucks and TCBY in the central area - many others that I don't recall.

Thank you!
Why did I think it was Tennessee? It is good to know there is a Starbucks nearby, must keep my nerves as frazzled as possible LOL.
Although, I must say, the last time we flew to PDX, it was the easiest flight! or maybe it is just easy compared to the longer more stressful (for me) International flights..
Thank you again, Scarlett

Scarlett,

We have changed planes twice at CVG en route from Birmingham to JFK to Europe.

Once we had to take a shuttle to another gate, but all in all, both short layovers were unremarkable.

And that's just the way we like layovers, isn't it?

Scarlett -- If you're on a Comair (Delta Connection) flight to CVG, you'll arrive at terminal C and then it is an easy shuttle ride to A and B. If you're arriving on another Delta or Delta Connection flight, you'll likely arrive in A or B, so no problem. You're in Florida, right? What is your departure city?

Hi Scarlett.

CVG is pretty easy to manage. With Delta you're in Terminal 3 and Concourses A, B & C.

Here's the map:

www.cvgairport.com/terminals/index.php

The shuttle mentioned above is to connect to a puddle jumper with Comair in Concourse C. Doubtful you'll be using them. Even so the connecting busses run frequently from the other concourses.

The other issue with Cincinnati is another you don't have. That's switching airlines. If you were to switch to let's say United from your Delta flight, you'd have to exit security at Terminal 3 then go through security again to get into Terminal 1 which is where I believe United operates.

Terminal 3 is new and very nice. Wide concourses so you don't feel cramped with some decent dining options.

Thanks for all the info, everyone!
We are leaving out of JAX Fl(Comair) to CVG to PDX all on Delta.
Coming home will be PDX - ATL (Comair) - JAX -all on Delta.

Don't eat at Damon's in CVG. I made that mistake in March. CVG/CDG - So close yet so far.

Yes, honey, you know exactly what I mean :) CDG CVG..worlds apart~

I won't eat anywhere!
I usually avoid eating when flying, must be a latent fear of airsickness or something, but I drink a little..a Bloody Mary has enough alchohol to keep germs away :D or at least that is what the Yankee says.
