I'm sorry to hear you had bad service at Hot Lips - it is one of my favorite pizza places in Portland (it's a small local chain - there are four stores) and I've been patronizing them for over ten years. I've been frequenting the one in the Pearl lately and in the last few weeks I've had great service. I suspect you were simply unlucky; once in a blue moon, you get the wrong person at pretty much any restaurant you visit.

The delivery person at Hot Lips is nice :)
I think I like Pizza Schmizza better lately though, for a slice.
This is the one thing we still have not found in Portland..a pizza that makes us happy...But so many other things do make us happy, who cares :D

Andrew: You're probably right that it was just unlucky. They forgot to put our order in.

mms: No, it's not a felted bag. It's a small knitted bag with regular yarn. I found the pattern in the Debbie Bliss Workbook. I started it last night -- so far so good!

My daughter enjoyed a slice of the cheese pizza at the Hot Lips by Portland State yesterday. I had a small taste and it was good! It was a fun place to sit and relax. ***kim*** ((*))

This is a great post. We will be in Portland in just over 2 weeks for a few days visiting friends. Glad to see a post with reasonable eats, and I can't wait to try Hot Lips Pizza. :-)

Scarlett Jun 10th, 2006 03:33 PM

Hot Lips is a great place to just sit and have a soda ...I like the atmosphere there.
They are certainly filling slices and I would be surprised that someone could eat at the beautiful restaurant Fenouil, in the Pearl, then have a slice of Hot Lips pizza ,then eat at Paleys for dinner.
kureiff, today was the Rose Parade, you would have enjoyed it.
The weather is so beautiful! Hurry back!

Oh, I remember going to a place in Portland maybe 8 or 9 years ago for hot dogs and sausages. It was in the downtown area, and I think it had been there for a while. Does that place sound familiar? Thanks!

Scarlett--Some people can just eat a LOT. I don't see how, but apparently some do.

BTW, the Hot Lips near PSU is not exactly the most scenic part of the city.

trippinkpj Jun 10th, 2006 04:26 PM

So where would be the most scenic Hot Lips for out of towners?
Thanks!

Scarlett Jun 10th, 2006 04:49 PM

Hot Lips ((K)) in the Pearl at the EcoTrust Bldg

Fodorite018 Jun 10th, 2006 05:00 PM

Scarlett has it right. The Hot Lips by PSU is basically there for the University. The area is not exciting at all, IMO, except for the Farmer's Market on Saturdays, and that is several blocks from Hot Lips.

Andrew Jun 10th, 2006 05:12 PM

There are four Hot Lips in Portland: PSU, The Pearl, Hawthorne (and SE 23rd) and Raleigh Hills (west side). Yes, the Pearl is probably the best location, at NW10th and Johnson (street car stop right out in front). There is actually a little parking lot available in front evenings and weekends as well.

Speaking of the Rose Festival, I got some pictures today of the Grand Floral Parade and the Dragon Boat races:

The parade pictures are nothing special, just snapshots, but at least you can see a couple of the floats. Some of the dragon boat pics are pretty good.

The Pearl area sounds good. Thanks for the info! :-)

trippinkpj Jun 10th, 2006 05:19 PM

Andrew (or others)- Did you know about the place for hot dogs/ sausages in the downtown area I was asking about? It was a very busy at lunchtime, order at the counter kind of place.

Andrew Jun 10th, 2006 05:24 PM

Could it be Good Dog/Bad Dog?

http://portland.citysearch.com/profile/8459629/

Never been there myself.

If not, whereabouts downtown? Was it a regular restaurant, not a little kiosk or something?

Andrew

trippinkpj Jun 10th, 2006 05:42 PM

I think that was it. It did have dog decor, was a restaurant with table, and you ordered at a counter. Thanks Andrew!

Scarlett Jun 10th, 2006 06:25 PM

LOL, I have not eaten there but Good Dog Bad Dog always makes me laugh. It is always busy and yes, there are tables outside. When I first visited Portland, I thought it was a pet shop of some sort ((&))

Andrew, we were there...pup howled at the horses LOL I loved that parade ((F))

Re: PSU-at night the park blocks are used by the bums, the Mayor and police said there would be a crackdown on it, making it a bit more pleasant/safe for people to walk around after dark. I have not heard of any improvement so far, Andrew ? know anything about it?
Mind you, I doubt tourists would be bothered by it.

>>I also got some yarn to make a small bag and then I'm going to embroider the bag (ambitious plans as I'm not a very good knitter)! <<

Look at it this way - the embroidery can cover any mistakes you might make! :-D

I wish we could've seen the Rose Parade. We watched part of the starlight parade -- so many good bands!

Great photos of the boats and Rose parade!
