A perfect weekend in NY (well, except for that parking ticket...)

Thought I'd do a brief report on a great weekend. A friend and I went to NYC April 21 and had a fantastic time. The weather was glorious (that first really nice weekend after mostly lousy weather). We left early Sat morning to drive down. Stayed at the Waldorf Astoria with my Hilton Honors points (might as well go in style ) The room was great, except those curtains really didn't go with the wallpaper!

We headed out to walk over to 7th Ave to find a bus down to the West Village. Ended up walking a ways because it was just so nice out, through Time Square & a street fair and a little further. Caught the M20 bus to the Village and just walked around enjoying the day and the area, stopped at a flea market, just generally enjoyed the beautiful weather and being in NY.

We had tickets for The Drowsy Chaperone, and as usual, Fodorites directed me to a few restaurants that were located between the hotel and the theater. I chose Akdeniz, Turkish food, 19 West 46th Street between 5th & 6th Aves, because it looked like we could do our budget of $50/per person and we both like to try different foods. Guess I chose well, because the bill, including tax and tip, was $105! The food was terrific. Wonderful chicken soup, thicker than a broth but not a heavy cream soup, somewhere in between, with a strong lemon flavor. Delicious! For appetizers, my fried mussels in a house sauce were great. Can't remember what my friend had right now, but she liked it. I had Red Snapper and my friend had Lamb kabob, both very good. We shared a bottle of wine.

The show was delightful. We had great seats right down front (4th row). We both love musical comedies, and this was a good one. We just wandered back through Time Square to the hotel and got off our aching feet!

The next morning, we drove over and parked near Central Park. This is where the ticket came in. We really thought we were OK where we parked. Afterward, we could see what the sign meant (of course, hindsight is 20/20!). Oh well, we had a beautiful walk through the park. I got an absolutely gorgeous picture of a bush in bloom, with more of the park framing some of NY's buildings. It looks great enlarged to 8x10.
Thanks for the suggestions on seating at the show and dinner! We had a wonderful time.

Sounds great. You were lucky the car wasn't towed.

Glad you had such a great day (sorry about the car..) and thanks particularly for the detailed info about the Turkish Restaurant. That's about what we can afford, and I'm making a list of special places. This will go on my list! It will be interesting to see how many of the places we actually go to.

Also glad to hear how much you enjoyed "Drowsy Chaperone".

If you drove in, you must live quite close to NYC. Lucky You!

Brahmama, it's about four hours to drive down, close enough to go for just a weekend. After living there for a couple years a long time ago, it's amazing how long it's been since I've been there, as I always love it!
