A night out
 

We are four women in our late thirties (or so) looking for a good dance club in the mid town manhattan area, any suggestions would be appreciated. Also looking for a reasonable restaurant any cuisine is fine, fun, loud, people meeting place, good food. I know this is very general but would really like any suggestions. Music would be top 40, "danceable" sort of music, not alternative etc. We are headed to South Street Seaport just to see it, I hear it's beautiful, we can stay there or head up to mid-town. This will happen Friday 5/11, please help! Thanks

You won't find any good dance clubs near the seaport or in midtown either. I don't know of any top 40 dance clubs at all, come to think of it. Maybe Roxy? The best clubs in the city play house/trance music, IMHO, and they cater to young gay hotties. You could try www.newyork.citysearch.com and see if anything strikes your fancy. <BR>Also, what does reasonable mean to you? $20 entrees? $20 per person? Will you be drinking wine, beer, water? The price range is so great here in NYC and can go so high that a little more definition is needed.

I also have never heard of any dance clubs in NYC with top 40 type music.<BR><BR>Some of my favorite loud, reasonably-priced people-meeting type restaurants with very good food are:<BR>Delta Grill (48th & 9th, Cajun)<BR>Walker's (Broadway & No. Moore in Tribeca, American)<BR>Flor de Sol (Greenwich Street & Harrison in Tribeca, Spanish/tapas)<BR>Heartland Brewery (2 locations, one on 6th Avenue in the 50's, one on the west side of Union Square)<BR>Old Town Bar (18th & Broadway, awesome burgers)<BR>Zarela (50-something and 2nd, Mexican)<BR><BR>Most of these are not in Midtown or near the Seaport. There isn't much nightlife near the Seaport (as far as I know...if there is, someone please enlighten me!), and Midtown covers a very large area, some with nightlife and some with just office buildings. (will you be on east side? west side?) And most nightlife throughout NYC consists of bars, not dance clubs.

For your dancing extravaganza, try DECADE on the Upper East Side. The younger, less experienced generation who believed the hype and coughed up the $20 cover are likely to bolt after realizing they could feed a third world country for the price of a single drink. On the flip side, Decade offers a tasty prix fixe dinner in the elegant VIP dining room. And don’t forget they have different themes most nights: Monday is Classic Rock Night sponsored by 104.3 FM and Thursday is Executive Decade when a DJ spins a history of fab radio hits.

thanks all, just to clarify; $20.00 entrees are what we would find as reasonable, what about live bands? rather than top 40 stuff. Just looking for "danceable" type music, not "techno" or .....over-the-edge type music, anyone out there close to 40? That type of music that won't determine that you need to see the chiropractor the next morning!Good people meeting place, 40 ish of course. thanks

Polly Esthers (polyesters) is in the Village on West 4th Street and they play all 80's disco/dance music. It's a lot of fun.

I forgot to mention that people my age (37) will be there. You won't feel "old." Whereas it's all kids at the clubs.
