A New Museum in Washington DC
 

A new interactive museum opens this morning in Washington.

The White House Historical Association has created The People’s House to offer the White House experience in replica and virtually.

Through innovative exhibits, objects, and interactive media, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the White House's role in American history.

Admission is free, with a timed ticket reservation. They do suggest, but do not require, a $15 donation.

We have planned a few days in November to see Paris 1874 at the NGA. I ought to see about The People’s House ticket availability, maybe for the morning before our train home. (There are a few special exhibits at the Freer and the Sackler that may have priority for this visit since they are temporary.)

I would be interested in hearing reactions and impressions from anyone who visits this new museum

From the advance tour, I can offer that the main attraction will probably be the simulated Oval Office.

Mostly it feels like a fundraiser for the WHHA. That is not a bad thing; the group does important work. There are simulations and interactive exhibits, which can go over the head of young visitors; and some catchy photo-ops. There's an opportunity to drop a $1 to vote on a favorite Presidential pet, but who carries cash these days? I'd rather purchase an official WH ornament to support the organization.

School and corporate groups (why the latter?) get the bookings for the deep-dive into the construction of the building and the stories of the enslaved who made it happen.

I've been in the Oval Office, so perhaps I am jaded. I've also been on the Candlelight tours on pre-9/11 days of yore. I love the concept of this project. I'm not in love with the execution. I think many visitors to D.C. will either not be aware of this exhibit, or pass on it when they can not get tickets, especially with all of the no-ticket-required access to all of the gems on the National Mall.
