A long weekend in the country in GA

We're from Orlando and want to get away Thanksgiving Day weekend. We've been to Savannah and basically just want to get away somewhere with nice countryside to just read, relax and hike a little but not drive too far. Any ideas?

One idea outside of Atlanta is Serenbe -

"hiking" makes me think of the N GA mountains, but I don't know if you want to go that far.

My favorite getaway is Jekyll Island. Very simple but wonderful. Not a lot of "hiking" but you can walk the beach, kayak, bike, etc.

If you can splurge a bit, drive to Amelia Island and take the ferry over to the Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island. THAT would be my #1 choice, if it fits your pocketbook.

I highly recommend the Pine Mountain Club Chalets in Pine Mountain, GA. www.pmccresort.com. Callaway Gardens is less than two miles away and it truly is heaven on earth. The Festival of Lights is magnificent. And I'm a cynical grown up. You can rent bikes and ride part or all of 27 miles of bike trails. Beautiful lake. Birds of Prey show and butterfly house. I have traveled all around the world and I can't say I've enjoyed anything more than a long weekend at the chalets. We own a chalet and it's in the rental program but I'll be there all next week. BTW, there is easy interstate access and it's only an hour from Atlanta. Warm Springs, where FDR came for the healing mineral baths, is about 20 minutes away. The "Little White House," where he spent a lot of time during his presidency, has been kept exactly the way it was the day he died there while having his portrait painted. There are scratches on the door where Falla, his Scottie, scratched to be let out and the toilet paper is still on the rolls. The introductory film is great. On the way back to Pine Mountain you can stop at Dowdell's knotch, an outlook where FDR used to have barbecues. A truly breathtaking vista. You won't believe your in Georgia.

The spa at the new Lodge at Callaway is nice. The cottages are very nice.
