Thanks to all Fodorites who have helped me over the years with planning trips from Yellowstone NP to NYC. Hope you are having a loving and joyous holiday.

Dan,
I know how you feel. We spent last Christmas Eve in the emergency room with my mother after a stroke from which she miraculously recovered. This year we aren't as lucky--after our annual emergency room visit we've taken Mom back to the nursing home for her last few days among family and friends. I've pulled out photos of her at the slot machines in Nevada, on the Maid of the Mist, lounging on the beach in St Pete, eating begneits in New Orleans, and many other trips you guys help me take her on since her 70th birthday.

Remembering those who have passed as well as those who are still traveling with us,

Kay2 in Georgia

"I had just stopped in to see her for a few minutes earlier in the evening."

Dan - How lucky you were to have had that last visit...not all of us are so lucky.

My condolences...
Debi

dan and Kay2--My thoughts are with both of you.

Dan and Kay2, I lost my dad at Christmas and everyone said that was such a sad thing. It really isn't. You remember them at a time so special to them and celebrate their life each year. You are both in my prayers.

Dear dan, as a grandmother of two wonderful grandson's I just wanted to say I can know the joy you gave your dear grandmother in her last moments, to gaze at your face, to hold your hand, to hear your voice. May I be as fortunate. Blessings to all of your family, may your grandmother's memory be with you forever.

And Kay2, how wonderful that your mother had the experience of a loving daughter who took her on trips. So many mother's do not have daughters like you. Prayers for your mother, for you, for all of your loved ones.

To everyone that is dealing with illnesses and deaths. Peace be with you.

Merry Christmas to all!

From Jennifer in Charleston, SC.....where it's too warm for it to be Christmas. There's just something wrong with wearing shorts at Christmastime!

My thoughts are with you as well Kay. It is extra hard to have things happen like this at times when you would otherwise be celebrating. My wife's grandfather died on Thanksgiving of 2005, my grandfather died the day after my 30th birthday, and my wife's grandmother died on my 40th birthday. Makes you think after a while. It sounds like you have many wonderful memories of travels with your mother - those are precious indeed.

I appreciate all the thoughts many of you shared with me after the death of my grandmother. My family seems to be handling it pretty well. As it turns out, my wife and I appear to have been the last family members to see her alive. She was 89 and lived a full life. She was actually in very good health until recently and a real character until the end.
