cp: OK, vitriolic might have been a bit strong, but please, he was Mr. Angry personified. No-one minds a healthy debate, & in fact I welcome dissenters so that I can learn from them, but Tony’s overly sarcastic, superior tone suggested, to me at least, a whole other agenda going on.

>>>>>> That said, Hilary, I did appreciate your trip report. Not all of it was interesting .....

I quite agree!

>>>>>>> the way you wrote out the accent made it look as though you'd been accosted by a Texan masquerading as a Californian.

May well have been! We were in tourist hotspots after all. All I ever meant was that our accent seemed to get picked up on in the west but not in the east. Oh and just in case there’s any great west v. east rivalry going on, keep me out of it! Dealing with Scottish (presumably) Tony & his apparent anti-the-South (or the English?) feelings has been conflict enough for now. Me, I just love everyone, including Tony (sorry mate). It's so much easier!

>>>>>>>>we tend to think of an "English" accent as educated and dignified ....

Ah but what do you think of the English themselves?!

>>>>>>>>> You won't catch me posing for pictures while bending over, too cruel to the viewer.

I’ve felt like that for years but I’ve decided the grip of the Diet Police will no longer hold me back. The skinnies have had it their way for too long. We must fight them on the beaches.

Heather/Trina: Thanks for your kind comments.

>>>> Don't let what Tony said get you riled up.....

Oh I didn’t, don’t worry. I’ve been pretty snotty myself at (unhappier) times in my life so it’s probably fair that I should get the odd bit of stick come my way. Life's too short to be bothered by it though.

And now as both Tony and I have received quite enough a

Topping this rather old message--I came across it looking for information on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH, and became immediately engrossed in Hilary's trip report of the area... Hilary, if you're still around, I believe you should at the very least have your own newspaper column, perhaps in the NY Times, or better yet, a TV show-- Your wit and observations are priceless! Haven't finished reading this whole thread, so back to it! Tally ho!
