Thanks so much for the advice and suggestions. I really appreciate your input. I saw a package deal the other day where you can board the ferry at Bellingham and go to Juneau and spend the night. Next day, they fly you to Gustavus in a flightseeing plane where you also spend the night. Next day is an 8-hour tour of Glacier Bay and then back to Juneau. I might have the days/nights mixed up but you then go to Skagway, spend the night and do the White Pass/Yukon rail trip the next day. You then proceed to wherever in your own car. It is expensive but I thought I would check to see if the same trip could be done from Prince Rupert. I realize that we would not see as much of the Inside Passage, but do you think the tour of Glacier Bay and staying the night at the Gustavus Inn would make up for it. I'm thinking after leaving Skagway, we could make our way to Homer where we would spend two nights, then two nights in Seward, a night in Girdwood or Talkeetna or maybe both if it makes sense to stay in both when they are not that far apart. Then, 2 nights in Denali and at least one night in Fairbanks because I want to go to the Arctic Circle. From Fairbanks, we would make our way home via the AL-CAN. What do you think. Any more ideas would sure be appreciated. Lynda |
If you are leaving the ferry in Skagway, it's about 800 miles to Anchorage. The drive is beautiful, esp if the fireweed is blooming (late July) but long. We overnighted in Tok. It was a great trip.
