A good word for an airline...

With so many bad, p-o'd tales of airline travel, I just wanted to put in a word for an airline that knows how to go the extra step.

This week's mail brought an intriguing box from Midwest Express Airlines. Inside, a cloud-decorated tin and inside that....a thank you and six big chocolate chip cookies!!

How can you not love an airline like that! Not to mention, their comfortable seats, good service and excellent food....

We are FF-registered, but thanks to a usually too-thin wallet, we are not nearly as frequent fliers as we'd like to be. But a gesture like this..vis a vis what passes for 'service' on some of the major carriers...really blew me away.

I wouldn't eat those cookies if I were you. LOL

I say instead of the money spent by Midwest Express for the pretty decorated tin and big cookies inside, to lower airfare rates. THAT would bring a good word from me! I wonder how many of those goodies were sent? Enough to raise rates in the near future, I'll bet! ;-)

To: Arjay

Thanks for passing that positive "good word" along about Midwest Express.

Humbugs to those who think airlines are out to get them. Why not a little rapport building, and if it takes a small tin of cookies to bring a smile, everyone is happy!

Besides, six cookies isn't going to lower the price of a ticket to make those two posters (above) happy with anything.

Bah Humbug to them -- and thanks, Arjay, for sharing!

Yer welcome! I sure didn't expect to get slammed for offering up a compliment here. If an airline with a record like United's, as a for instance, was squandering money on cookies, instead of spending bucks and giving attention to hugely needed improvements in service, I could buy poster #2's arguement. But when you're doing as good a job, service-wise as Midwest Express...cookies are frosting on the cake!

I resurrected this thread from a search because I just flew on Midwest Express (by chance) and was amazed at what a great little airline they are! My employer put me on them for a NYC-Kansas City trip that was short notice because fare was 1/3 of what the majors were charging on the same route (interestingly... the low fare was only from LaGuardia - from Newark the price was the same as the majors). They were courteous, efficient and on time and even better... business class seatgin throughout the plane (wide leather seats) and served very good food. I had a pan-fried lobster cake, mini-ravioli and cheesecake for dinner (it was very good), served on real chinia with a cloth napkin and real cutlery (except the knife which is now plastic). They have a limited number of routes but i will definitely give them my business again in the future. After a horrifying experience on ATA lat year (also known as American Trans Air), I was cringing at the thought of flying on another "unknown" airline. Turns out they're just undiscovered and I'm not sure why.

Midwest Express is the class of the airline business and has been that way for many, many years.
Just check any of the airline rating lists, like Conde Nast, and look at the wide margin between the score for MWE and whoever is ranked #2 at the time. It's usually huge.

Anyone who would criticize them for sending a customer cookies (thinking the airline will then intentionally pass along the cost to consumers) simply doesn't know anything about this airline. I just hope they survive the recent economic turmoil.

I'll ALWAYS pay a few extra bucks to fly them. Completely worth it.
Owen...Midwest Express is an wonderful, undiscovered gem. I fly on them every chance I get. Their breakfast flights are wonderful too. Good tasting food, great service, nice leather seats and a great staff.

You have to do a bit of searching to get the really great low fares...but when they are the same price as a $300 or $400 coach ticket I will go with them because I can be in business class with the amenities. I can usually find a flight to Boston or Atlanta for a couple of hundred dollars. (of course depending on the time of year)

And, I agree with Vince...hoping they make it thru the next couple of years. They have cut back a number of flight routes that I regularly used, so it has been harder to throw my business their way.

Some people, like the 2nd and 3rd posters, will never be satisfied with an airline and will always have a chip on their shoulder unless the airline offers them something for free or bows down to kiss their feet. Lighten up.
