A Girdle on the Plane?

OK so I am plump in the rump. Is it ok to wear a girdle on a plane flight? I don't want to squish too much and have something odd happen - do you wear a girdle flying?

TheWeasel May 6th, 2006 09:32 AM

I think TSA banned girdles because of the security risk to someone if they burst mid-flight.

JBHapgood May 6th, 2006 09:43 AM

Air travel is uncomfortable enough all by itself. Why add to the discomfort (unless you're a real masochist)?

(And here I thought girdles went out of fashion not long after hoop skirts. You can learn so much from Fodor's!)

starrsville May 6th, 2006 09:48 AM

It's fine unless you eat too much soft cheese in the Alps.

P_M May 6th, 2006 09:48 AM

Actually starrsville, if the girdle is tight enough, it will help prevent flatulence--until she takes it off, then all hell will break loose. :-O

annesherrod May 6th, 2006 09:50 AM

I would leave that contraption at home!! Just be comfortable!!!!

Some people become bloated on flights, and if this would happen to you, you would be in a lot of discomfort. :)

Neopolitan May 6th, 2006 09:53 AM

Oh thank goodness. From the title I thought they were trying to reduce the size of Jumbo Jets.

beentheretwice May 6th, 2006 09:54 AM

If you swell during flights what will happen? Will it help with the possibility of DVT?

How are we supposed to answer this? Do I PERSONALLY where a girdle while flying? Ummmm.

Just be sure you are off the plane before 18 hours is up?

Neopolitan May 6th, 2006 09:57 AM

"Just be sure you are off the plane before 18 hours is up?"

Careful, beentheretwice, I think you're dating yourself. The sad part is I "got" it.

seetheworld May 6th, 2006 09:59 AM

"...have something odd happen"

Too late! :D

beentheretwice May 6th, 2006 10:00 AM

Ummm, my MOTHER wore the 18 hour brand?
;-)

grantop May 6th, 2006 10:02 AM

I thought it was anidea how to get more people squeezed into coach . . .

J_Correa May 6th, 2006 10:03 AM

I don't even wear tight pants on planes

P_M May 6th, 2006 10:04 AM

So what happens if you wear it longer than 18 hours? :-?

Sunshinesue May 6th, 2006 10:07 AM

It turns into a pumpkin.

schoong324 May 6th, 2006 10:12 AM

If your flight is an hour or less by
all means wear the girdle. However,
we just got off an 18 hour flight and
that would never have worked. Have you
seen those very light, soft sort of
Spandex things that have minimal
support...

nytraveler May 6th, 2006 10:14 AM

Wel - I wasn;t aware than anyone but my mother - who is 85- still owned a girdle. And I know she hasn;t worn it in years.

If you want to wear a pair of panties with a little stretch to firm your figure that's fine - but never wear anything tight or at all uncomfy on a plane - esp for a long ride it will be hell.

And compression in the wrong places is not a good idea medically either.

beentheretwice May 6th, 2006 10:24 AM

PM, get NyTraveler's mother to let us ALL know what happens after the 18th hour!

Hey, should we start a new topic with that question? :-!

peeky May 6th, 2006 10:37 AM

Whatt? No one wears girldles anymore - well maybe they should!! What do you wear if you are fat - just let it all hang out?

I have a fear of bursting a vein - although it is funny about gas - something new to think about.

cigalechanta May 6th, 2006 11:09 AM

There are control panties you can wear.

A girdle is a hurdle that makes you infertile or curdle, unless you're a turtle :) who wears its own girdle
