A few more questions for our Williamsburg trip
I have a few more questions for our trip to Williamsburg in October. 1.) Has anyone been on the Yorktown Lady historical cruise? 2.) Which is better for kayaking and/or more scenic - York River State Park or Waller Mill Park? 3.) Which ghost tour do you prefer and why? 4.) Do you need to purchase tickets to the College of William and Mary's homecoming game in advance? 5.) Which park would you recommend for the best photo opportunities, with easy hiking trails?
We have been to Williamsburg many times and have already been to most of the tourist destinations more than once (Busch Gardens, CW, etc.) We want to spend a lot of time relaxing this trip and taking in all the natural beauty of the area. I appreciate any help on the above, or any other suggestions.

1. No, sorry.
2. Waller Mill's kayaking will be on a dammed lake. Nothing very exceptional. York River's will be on a creek (a tidewater creek surrounded by marsh plants) so it's gorgeous and peaceful but you will have to inquire about tides. I think you can also go onto the York River at the park. Other spots are the Chickahominy from the local park on Rt. 5 and the Powhatan creek from the put-in on Jamestown Rd.
3. Never done one.
4. Yes, ASAP if they are still available.
5. York River. What do you consider easy? Taskinas Creek trail is lovely and not very long but it has a few short uphills.

Although both were very entertaining, and CW does a great job with its programs, we actually preferred the other tour (the one based on L.B. Taylor's book).
It's been a while since we took the tour, so I'm not sure how much it has changed, but we especially enjoyed the colonial origins of some modern phrases that our guide shared between ghost stories.

Thanks everyone. I'm happy to say I was still able to order tickets for the game.
Birdie, is the name of the park on Route 5 the Chickahominy Park? Do you know if they rent kayaks and canoes there?

Take the original ghost tour - it's the one based on LB Taylors book. You can actually buy tickets at Retro's, a cute little hot dog joint on Prince George Street. There is a public ghost tour every night at 7 or 8.
