A 'Fair' question...
I am planning a late summer road trip. Thinking of going to either the West Virginia state fair or the Kentucky state fair. I am about 5 1/2 hours travel time from either location. So my question is... to those who have been there, which fair is better? All serious replies please....:-)

The NYS Fair....lol

why 'lol'?

ttt. Seriously, if anyone out there has opinions as to these fairs, let me know. thanks.

The Kentucky State Fair, held in August in Louisville, is certainly a unique experience.
www.kystatefair.org You can easily spend two full days at the fair, enjoying the amusement park one day and the animals/exhibits the other. Seeing the many animals is, in my opinion, the most fun. A BIG benefit of the Ky fair is Louisville -- a large city with other entertainment options as well as excellent restaurants & nightlife opportunities. |
why 'lol'?
soorry...I'm just biased. Grew up in the Syracuse area and the NYS fair is a tradition. http://www.nysfair.org/state_fair/ |
I have never been to the WV State fair, but I love the KY state fair. When I was in college, we used to go every summer, mostly for the concerts. It was always a lot of fun. Plus, as Gekko pointed out, you also have the whole city of Louisville to explore, as well.

Growing up I went to the KY State fair every year. I loved it and so did everyone else I know. I have never been to WV but in my mind NOTHING could be better than the KY fair!
|
I heard that the fair is held largely indoors? Is that right?
|
Well, I'm convinced! Kentucky State fair it is. Now, where to stay? I've never been to Louisville.

If you want elegant, the Seelbach and the Brown Hotel are the best in Louisville. (The Seelbach was mentioned in "The Great Gatsby" where Daisy had her debutante party.)
Downtown is a fine location in terms of getting to the fairgrounds. Another option is the Executive Inn West, which is very close to the Fairgrounds but not as convenient for non-fair activities. www.seelbachhilton.com www.thebrownhotel.com www.executivewest.com |
Just looking for the average place (less than $80 / night. A Holiday Inn Express type place would be ok.

While you are in that area, go over to the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. It's worth a day if you have time.
check out the events schedule. http://www.kyhorsepark.com/ |
