A day in NY City

We will be at the JFK Sheraton for November 2nd and will fly out in the evening of November 3rd. What can we do in such a restricted time and the best way to get into the city. We do not want to spend all of the kids inheritance on this one day excursion. Thanks

Since you could literally spends weeks in NYC and not see everything, and you're only talking about one day, how about some ideas on what your likes and dislikes are?

I would suggest doing one of the site seeing tours that are offered. That way you have transportation all day long and you can get on and off the bus when you want to see something, and get on a latter bus to continue seeing the city.

You might want to spend some time down in the Wall St. area, Southstreet Seaport, Chinatown, Little Italy, Soho, The Village, Midtown, then get on the A train back to JFK.

You also might get a book on the city so your kids can see what the city has to offer before you get here.

Have fun while you are here.

Suggest you use public transportation to get to the city. Cost is $1.50 a person. A taxi will cost close to $40. Airport buses go for $13 a person. Once in the city you could take a walking tour of the midtown area. You could visit Times Square, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, Musuem of Modern Art, NY Public Library, Empire State building, Macy's department store, Central Park, Grand Central Station, Radio City Music Hall and a host of other interesting places. All of the above are in an area from 34th Street to 60th St and from 5th Ave. to Broadway.

In one day I went to the top of Statue of Liberty, visited Ellis Island, top of World trade center , took subway and shopped in Chinatown, went to taping of Conan O'Brian show, and then walked to Empire State building and went to the top for a view of the city at night. It makes for a pretty long day but one is definately do-able.
