A day in Alexandria, VA
Hello fellow travelers,
I am going to DC next month with my wife for three days and I was hoping to spend a day in Alexandria. We plan on doing the touristy national mall stuff in DC but thought it would be nice to get outside the district and make a stop over in Alexandria. Since we are limited on time we would love to spend our time in Old Town. I was hoping to get some advice on things to do/see or places to eat/drink. A lot of people say the best thing is to just wander the streets in Old Town and I am totally okay with that! We love being immersed in the culture so if there are any great restaurants and bars that we need to check out while we are there please share! Thanks, Chris |
The one thing I'd be sure to do (in addition to wandering around Old Town and the waterfront) is the Torpedo Factory - it's an old torpedo factory converted into art studios that you can "tour".

Have you considered a visit to Mount Vernon? It seems to me you could fit both into a day, the distance from Alexandria only about 8 miles.

When we were in Alexandria last spring, my husband enjoyed seeing the sites associated with the PBS Mercy Street series
