Would like to know what folks think is the nicest hotel(s) in Madison (downtown)...and how likely it/they might come up on Priceline. Biddingfortravel would seem to indicate that only the Radisson West comes up responding to 3* bids. Thanks for any guidance.

I would be surprised if there are more than a couple of 3* hotels in Madison. I remember staying at a Marriott there are few years ago, but it was not a particularly nice hotel.

Most of the hotels I remember are more the Motel 6ish. There are Red Roof Inns just off the interstate and not far from downtown.

Hope this helps. I would check with Priceline, hotels.com, try AAA and then you might check a search engine for all hotels in Madison and go from there.

I just went to the Yahoo search engine and got listings for 67 hotels/motels in Madison. There is a Raddison and a Sheraton listed, I think those might be your best alternatives.

If you want to be in the downtown area, (and that's where I would want to be, too), then the choices for nicer properties are a bit limited and that probably has an impact on Priceline availability. The Hilton Monona Terrace is a very new property that is convenient to the Capitol Square, etc. Another one I use from time to time is the Concourse and if you'd like a higher tier experience their, you can check out The Governor's Club level. I've stayed at the Radisson a number of times and while it is certainly not a "downtown Madison" experience, it tends to be competitively priced and Madison is not all that large of a city. A place that is not all that great, but a popular spot for its convenience to the capitol is Inn on the Park.

As a lifelong Madison resident, I second Jim's recommendations.

If you have a car the Radisson West would be okay but, although Madison is not a large city, it is easy to get turned around if you're not familiar with the one-way streets in the downtown area.

My first choice would be the Hilton Monona Terrace and my second would be the Concourse Hotel.

If you want to be downtown, which has far more to offer than either ends of Madison. Your choices inlcude the Concourse Hotel, the Edgewater Hotel, Hilton Monona Terrace, and a the best-western in on the park. I would reccomend the Concourse for location, however the edgewater is madison's best hotel.

Downtown Madison also now has a renovated "Boutique" type hotel. I've not seen the rooms, but the public areas are very nice. It's one block off of state steet at the university end. Has anyone stayed here?
