A challenge
 

As one of the frequent Noach basher's I note with some concern the Fodor's topic about monitoring and deleting postings from this board. While some people may feel sorry for Noach, just research what exactly was in that e-mail he sent to people, and read most of his usual posts (not related to real travel as much as it is to cyber travel) However, in the spirit of keeping this forum the open air, free floating idea forum it should be, I challenge Noach, and some of the other inane posters like Lucy (see the "thank you" thread)to post only relevant travel related information. In return, those of us who find you annoying, will stop pointing out what we find annoying, and will in essence "lighten up" on you. Noach you could start by no longer posting your version of what happened with your e-mail message. Everyone who received one was offended, so there's no point disputing it.

1) What a hypocrite you are. Chastising others for clogging these boards with non-travel info---while clogging these boards with non-travel flaming barbs. <BR> <BR>2) Who died and made you King? So if others will conform their posts to your preferences, you won't flame them! I'm sorry, I thought this was Fodor's Forums, not "xxx's Forums".

Sounds like a decent idea, we won't have "xxx" and the other faceless agitators out there, nor will we have Noach's every so scary postings.

Call it, I must admit I did not like the tenor of "xxx"'s post, but I am willing to take his challenge for the good of this board. However, I seriously doubt "xxx" will stop his/her juvenile postings. I also though the comment about Lucy was rude and uncalled for.

If everyone would just stop responding with what you think are these clever insults, retorts, etc., then the forum wouldn't be clogged. It's that simple! <BR>If you think someone's a fool, clown or whatever, ignore it! <BR>Hey, now, isn't that easy?

Oh exalted xxx, <BR> <BR>Would it be all right if I debated gas prices? I mean, that's related to travel, so long as the car is moving and not idling. How about shopping? Can I comment on that, or does only shopping one does while traveling qualify? Does this mean we have to delete the Mole thread? I'm so confused. <BR> <BR>How about if people like xxx who bash people try ignoring them instead? How about if people ignore rude or non-travel threads if they don't like them? What's the problem?

As a matter of fact Huh, no, stupid threads like the ones on gas prices and shopping should not have been posted to begin with. Look, you can threads like that if you want, but then you open yourselves up to our comments regarding what relevancy, if any, we think they have to the subject of travel. If Noach really means what he just posted above, then my goal has been accomplished.

Dear xxx, <BR> <BR>I am beginning to wonder if I am seeing signs of a rather unfortunate "control" problem. If 65 people want to discuss gas prices, what is it to you? Why do you view them as "opening themselves up" to being criticized, or flamed, by people like you? <BR> <BR>If you are really only interested in posts fitting your more narrow definition of "travel", I suggest you not click on any thread that does not have the name of a destination in the title. This little rule of thumb might save you quite a bit of time otherwise spent jumping into discussions to "comment" on the relevance of the thread. As for me, the long threads are sometimes very interesting, and while I am reading them, I will answer a few nuts-and-bolts posts if I have pertinent information. I'll admit that some long threads are not as entertaining or interesting. Those I skip. <BR> <BR>Let's try this: I'll stay out of your way if you will stay out of mine. How's that for a "challenge"?

Cindy, now you're getting it. If I disagree with someone, I'm "flaming" them, but when you bash me, you're just expressing your opinion. Let's just stop it and stick to travel, otherwise, be like Noach and leave.

Well, for the record, in your initial post, you described yourself as a "frequent Noach basher," so I took that as a rather frank admission of recurring bashing behavior. <BR> <BR>Second, I didn't bash you, or at least, that was certainly not my intent. I just think that people who don't like a thread should just move along rather than ridicule, belittle, flame, bash, criticize, barb, harass . . . If we all did that, there would be less rudeness, and we would all be happier, I think. People who want to stick to hotel and restaurant recommendations could do that, and people with broader views of the travel lounge could touch on more tangential issues. Problem solved! <BR> <BR>I've got it now, and it sounds like we have a deal. I'll leave everyone alone on the "strict travel" threads and you'll leave everyone alone on the rest of the threads. So that way, no one can be said to be opening themselves up to heckling if they participate on a thread you find "stupid."

If people viciously slander me, I have every right to defend myself and tell the truth. <BR> <BR>4. You are absolutely wrong when you say that everyone who received my email was offended. I only sent it to three or four people from this forum and one of them sent me a very thoughtful reply. I have received thoughtful and heartfelt replies from other people I have sent it to and no one else who I have sent it to has viciously betrayed me as was done here.

Cindy, just when I thought we had an understanding, here comes Noach again trying to tell us he isn't a weirdo. I've had it with him, and the people who defend him. Finally, if no one else objects, I'm all for calling it quits on this thread and putting it to be. Noach, that means no more replies.

Well, that is what I get for being the only one on this thread (other than Noach) foolish enough to use my own name. People post under fake names to bash me for telling a confessed habitual basher to stop bashing. Oh, the irony!

Cindy, Fodor's has just removed the post you made you made earlier today on the 'Grab Bag Question of the week', along with the posts I made just an hour ago. Perhaps you will also ask them why they did this, and both of our posts were perfectly appropriate and made very valid and germaine points.
