A/C in Yellowstone
 

Will be traveling to Yellowstone the beginning of September. Some of the accommodations I've seen do not have A/C. Being from Texas, A/C is an absolute necessity in September. Can I live without it in Yellowstone in September and not be miserable?

You should be asking about heat, not AC. Nighttime temperatures are already in the 30's and will drop below freezing by Sept.

I worked for the Grand Teton Lodge Co. for about 7 months in a management position for the summer. It was snowing when I got there in April, it snowed in June and it started snowing when I left in mid October.

The weather for both places are about the same. I can't remember it getting hot the entire summer.

The only time we were in YS without A/C was in mid-August. Even then we didn't A/C at night. During the day we'd open the window and set a box fan we'd bought at WalMart on the sill. Cooled it off enough to take a nap. We're from Florida and understand the A/C issue. My husband is the worst - but even he was fine. You're more likely to be looking for a light cover from sleeping.

It's been more than 30 years since I've been, so really looking forward to it.

I camped at both Canyon and Fishing Bridge in July on several occasions over a sixteen-year period. It was typically beautiful: 70's-80's (F) during the day, but 40's to below freezing overnight.

It has always been fantastic!

Visited in July a few years ago. When I went on my early morning drive, had to improvise to scrape film of frozen mist off the windshield

We were there in 2011 and when we got up at dawn on September 1st the temperature was 26. Brrr!

Good idea, Jill. The key is layers. Hss been on all 3 of our trips to YS.

Like Gail, we had to scape off ice one morning in early August several years ago.

And we were there in September, 2011 about a week after Pat, and it never got anywhere near being that cold.

Weather is YS is highly changeable, Not only from year to year, but from week to week. And sometimes from day to day.

Love that place.

Reminds me of my trip to YS years ago and on our first night we were so tired, we fell asleep with all the windows wide open. It WAS August and fairly warm......when we fell asleep. I woke about about dawn darn near frozen to death. Ran around the room closing windows in my bare feet, teeth chattering and the kids asking if it had snowed during the night!!

30 or so years ago when I was there, I was backpacking up and over. We started at Jenny Lake and ended at Teton Village! It was definitely cold in the a.m. Water was always frozen in our canteens. Definitely WON'T be camping this trip.
