A brief overview of Dearborn Michigan and the Henry Ford Museum
We just returned from a wonderful 2 day, 1 night stay in Dearborn. The Dearborn Inn gives a great 'Henry Ford Package". For $199.00 we stayed at the Inn, 2 tickets to the Henry Ford Museum, 2 tickets to Greenfield village, and 2 buffet breakfasts. And to top it off, I am a Marriot Rewards member so we were upgraded to the concierge level which also gave us hors-d-oeuvres from 5p to I think 7p complimentary, and a honor bar.
We toured the museum the first day which houses the car Kenndy was assassinated in and many of the first cars built. The second day we toured Greenfield Village and had a ten minute ride in an original 1918 Ford. We took the train around the village, had lunch in a period restaurant which only serves period, homemade food and walked thru many original buildings that have been moved brick by brick to Greenfield Village IE: the Wright Bros shop and many replica's for instance, Edison's lab, and the home of Brooker T Washington. It houses the boyhood home of Henry Ford and the boyhood home of Mcguffey sp? (Mcguffey's reader) A very interesting two days at a very reasonable cost.

We took 3hrs for the Henry Ford Museum. My husband could have spent more. We took 5hrs for Greenfield, I could have spent more. It was a beautiful sunny, cool day so walking was great. If it were hot and humid or rainy, I would not have spent as long as I did. One thing that made it special was the Dearborn Inn. It is within walking distance but they also have a shuttle that takes you any time of day. You call when ready to be picked up and they are there within minutes.

Forgot to mention that after you enter Greenfield Village, bear to your left and purchase an armband for $10.00. This will entitle you to ride the train, old Ford cars, & horse carriages all day. The very first thing we did was get on the train which is next to where you purchase the armband, and ride around the perimeter of the village. It gives you the layout of the land so to speak.

When you say that you spent 5 hours at Greenfield village and that you could have spent more , how many more? It will just be me and my 18 year old daughter. We both love this kind of place and there will be no one else there with us so we can spend as much time as we want.
Thanks
Melissa

Thanks for taking me back to my childhood! That's where we went for a lot of field trips. I haven't thought about it in a long time. I still have a little blue glass pitcher that the glassblowing guy made while we watched. And a glass ornament I purchased as an adult. It really is an interesting place.

Hi gomiki
Hi Melissa: I think we did Greenfield Village justice in 5hrs. However, we did not go thru all the homes. Some homes have hostesses in period dress that tell you about the home. I could have stayed longer and paid more attention. I regret not going to the 'Round House' for trains but I thought, I've seen this in San Franciso for cable cars so elected not to walk there. There was a barbershop quartet singing and I thought of sitting and listening for awhile, but did not. Little things like that. There is a restaurant in Greenfield Village where we had lunch that is very good and all period food, but only opened til 4:00pm The Eagle Tavern: http://www.helium.com/items/1612506-...ge-dearborn-mi
A restaurant that was recommended and where we intended to go, was Big Fish just 4 miles from Dearborn Inn where we stayed (and where I really, really recommend staying.) http://www.opentable.com/big-fish-dearborn However, we were on the concierge level of the Inn and they serve hors-d-oeuvres begining at 5pm. We intended to have a few and a drink and then go to the Big Fish. You guessed it, we were no longer hungry so ended up not going.
Have a great time, how nice that you can travel with your daughter!

Thanks CD. Timely thread as we're considering a trip there too.
Anyone familiar with the Best Western Greenfield Inn in Dearborn? Looks to be near THE Dearborn Inn, and has a 3 Diamond AAA rating. I have points for a freebie
