My wife and I are planning a trip to Williamsburg in mid august. Just the tow of us no kids. Mid fifties age. Looked at Hospitality House and Days Inn Historic and Severl others on Richmond road. they all look good. Which should we avoid<BR>Please help. Any suggestions or tips?<BR><BR>One web site lists the Hospitality house as a luxury hotel and another said it is moderate. toally confused. HELP

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE MOTELS YOU MENTIONED. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I HOPE YOU AND YOUR WIFE LIKE HOT WEATHER BECAUSE MID-AUGUST IN WILLIAMSBURG CAN BE STIFLING. WE WENT A COUPLE YEARS AGO TO PICK UP MY SON AT A CONFERENCE AT THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY AND WE WERE NEVER SO WARM IN OUR LIVES AND WE LIVE SOUTH OF THE MASON-DIXON LINE AND ARE USED TO SUMMER HEAT. IT WAS SO WARM WE HAD TROUBLE WALKING AROUND AND WE ARE A BIT YOUNGER THAN YOU ARE.

What are your criteria?

I thought it was a rather intriguing post, but unfortunately I have nothing to offer as far as travel advice.

Hi, Steve!<BR><BR>What a pity your simple query attracted the no-brains who so often nowadays plague this site with their abuse and ridicule (and, of course, false email addresses) in what must be some kind of pathetic attempt at proving to themselves that they are at least one-up on somebody! Or maybe they just want to slowly kill the board.<BR> Anyway, when we were in Williamsburg last year we came in by Greyhound, so we needed a place that was almost at one of the entrances to Colonial Williamsburg. We found that the Quarterpath Inn filled the bill nicely.... there are several other motels nearby, but it was cheaper than any of the others, and five minutes walk saw us in the historic area.

I have not stayed in either hotel that you have mentioned but have stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Richmond Road and have been very pleased with the accommodations and price. It is their newest one in Williamsburg. Have also stayed at Kingsmill Resort. The resort is lovely,beatiful grounds, great restaurant,pool, spa,etc. but as far the room (standard)I like Hampton Inn's just as well and it is much more economical. As to the weather, yes August can be hot and humid but it could turn out to be very pleasant. You just never know in Virginia what the weather will be. Good luck with your trip. I always enjoy a weekend in Williamsburg.

August can be hot and humid or cool and rainy. The Hospitality House is very nice. It is in a lovely area of B&B's across from William & Mary and about 5 blocks from Merchants Square. Most of the other hotels are further down Richmond Rd. Every chain is represented

Why not try one of the Colonial Williamsburg motels? They're very clean and have nice amenities. For value there's the Governors Inn 3 blocks from Merchants Square. For moderate there's the Woodlands located at the Visitors Center. Since there's just the two of you though I think I'd spring for one of the Colonial houses or taverns right inside CW; can't beat the ambience.

We are planning to stay at the Williamsburg Woodlands. It has a pool, restaurant and shuttle to take you to the village. www.history.org or www.colonialwilliamsburg.com can give details. Don't feel bad about your typing. My fingers often have a mind of their own whilst typing. Chris

The comments about the oppressively hot & humid weather are on-target. But to answer your actual question ....<BR><BR>Hospitality House looks quite nice, upper scale. <BR><BR>I've stayed twice at the Days Inn (902 Richmond Rd??) and it's adquate, I guess. It was originally a 1960's era Holiday Inn, and shows its age.<BR> <BR>Just a little further from it is a Super8 (1220? Richmond Rd) that is an older building, not one of the cheap wooden construction S-8's you know see, with rather spacious rooms, pool, coffee & donuts in the AM. Small shopping center across the street, with a bagel shop, Food Lion Grocery store, pharmacy, and "Sals", a nice family Italian restaurant. Also Indian & other nearby.<BR><BR>Further up are some other places that look ok- Heritage Arms?, Princess Anne - haven't stayed. You'll also find a number of chain hotels on Bypass Road - I've stayed at Travelodge and Best Inns and give them both good marks. There's a Howard Johnston's on Bypass that looks VERY "iffy" ... never any cars, rooms "by the week, month"<BR><BR>In August a bus service called the R&R bus runs from Williamsburg Pottery on the west to the Busch Gardens on the east. All day unlimited fare for less than $2 ... but weather might be too sticky to want to wait for it outside. Enjoy your trip, and let us know how it went. (remove the x in my eddress if writing me)

We stayed at a Travelodge in Williamsburg. I was expecting it to be a dump, but it was perfectly acceptable and very reasonably priced. (The room didn't smell, it had a nice pool, and comfoy beds with enough room to hang out after a day of walking.)
