$98 airfares between Chicago and New York

For anyone interested in travel between Chicago and New York over the next couple of months, JetBlue's intro into this market has produced a nice fare sale--$98 roundtrip (all inclusive) tickets with pretty wide availability. United and American are matching currently. I just bought a ticket for a business trip in February and and contemplating a weekend trip. Hope this is helpful to others...

I've gotten an e-mail from United and ATA (both of them separately) with low fares to/from Chicago O'Hare (United) and Midway (ATA) that you must use before March 7, 2007. And you must make the reservations in the next 3 or 4 days (feature ends 1/9 on one and earlier on the other).

But the fares are phenomenal. $49 to Washington D.C. and NYC on one each leg. That's $98 for a ROUND TRIP before taxes.

Other cities East have similar but slightly higher fares. It must be a fare war going on just for this short time frame. I'm pondering the logistics as I might go to Washington D.C.

And thanks ms go. I put it on another thread but didn't know about the Jetblue or American. Going across the board that wide, it really will present some extra opportunities.

JJ5-- my ORD-LGA flight (United) was $98 INCLUDING taxes. And it is for mid-week travel with just one night in New York. I've done a lot of mid-week travel to New York over the last 10 years and have never come close to that price. I've found pretty good availability for weekend travel at that price, too.

Mine has all kinds of print with some taxes mentioned. But holy-moly- I'm going to go home and talk him into it, or I'm going by myself. Good call.

Thank God It's Friday.

ms go - I only wish JetBlue would come to St. Louis but with this sale may be worthwhile to consider going via Chicago.

Thanks for the alert.

Well, I did it. I just bought two round trip on ATA from Midway to Washington D.C. at the end of February for an entire week.

Great bargain! Also had seat choices right on line and e ticket confirm check in for Midway. Both great mid-week and late morning flights too, just as we prefer.

Watch for some specific D.C. questions coming soon. It's been 46 years since I've been there. You think it's changed much??? I've seen some good threads on Fodors. After reading and doing some Pricelining, all you D.C.'ers watch out for my questions.

Thanks!

Gave it a week, because I really am going to relish some time at the different Smithsonian and also a drive to some surrounding areas.

Sure hope elderly's health prevails.

Does this mean if I go to New Yorkers it will be elbow to elbow with Chicago people? And if I go to Chicago it will be packed with New Yorkers?

I happend to notice that American had that $98 fare and was curious as to why. Now I know.

Good for you, JJ5. We also opted for Washington DC for just a few dollars more, as we were just in New York a couple of months ago. Mr_go hasn't been since 1989 and DD was three the last time I took her there (will be 14 when we go). We're also going in late February, but will only have a couple of days. Happy planning!

I punched in a random date in January for EWR-MDW.

Smartfares want $67.56 + $56.24 (tax/fees) = $123.80.

The same flight goes for $78.00 + $20.80 (tax/fees) = $98.80 on continental.com.

Booking this deep discount fare on the airline's own site earns 100% elite qualifying miles vs 50% if booked elsewhere, and up to 1,000 bonus miles you do all booking and check-in online.
