95 South on a Saturday evening?

In your experience, what is the normal traffic density on I-95 South on a Saturday? Specifically, from the Springfield area to Dumfries. Taking a school group to a competition and trying to figure out how much time to factor in for slow travel. Thanks!

wow...IMO anybody's guess...you'd THINK it wouldn't be the usual crawl at that time of day

Should be okay unless there is a special event somewhere along the line.

Ya never know on that route!! Also depends on which way the HOV lanes run...I think on Saturday they run South.

We drive from Fredericksburg to Springfield (mid-morning) and back again (late afternoon) about one Saturday per month. Very generally, southbound traffic is okay in your area (Springfield to Dumfries) in the mornings. By early afternoon it's built up and runs slow from Springfield to Lorton, then slows again briefly around the first Woodbridge exist before it clears up. Northbound in the afternoon, traffic is often slow through the whole Woodbridge area, from Potomac Mills on up past the Occaquon.

If you actually run into a major tie-up, you can always cut over to route one. It is a lot slower than 95, but can at least get you there if 95 can't for some reason. We do that, then check 95 a few exits down the road to see if things are better.
