95 or 81
Traveling from Charlottesville Va. to Westerly RI, I have never driven north of Baltimore. I want to break up my trip half way which would put me near Wilmington the first night. Any suggestions for good seafood in that area. I would like any input on the difference of going 95 vs 81 or just keep to 95. If I take 81 what would you consider halfway. Thanks.

Take the I-83 exit north of Baltimore (toward York PA). Tie into I-81 NE of Harrisburg. Spend the night somewhere between Harrisburg and Scranton. Take I-84 east from Scranton to get to CT.

Starting at Charlottesville, take I64 west to I81, then north to Scranton, then i84 east through Connecticut, and pick up I95 for the last few miles. Yes, it's a bit longer and a bit more time, but a more leisurely drive than the insanity of I95.
Lots of motels/hotels along I81 between Harrisburg and Scranton. |
Thanks for the replies, I will look into it further.

I 81 can get equally insane. I've experienced frightening truck traffic from Pennsylvania line south.

Everyone talks about the truck traffic on 81. There are trucks on every interstate I've ever driven.
I would take the 81 route over 95 any day. Google maps tells you a lot IMO--the 81 route is appriciably further in mileage but just minutes different in time. Getting through NYC is easier via 81. https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Char...775987!3e0!5i2 |
I've driven on many interstates and turnpikes and I stand by my statement about the trucks on I-81. I've experienced nothing else like it....and that includes the roads in the NYC metropolitan area, where I live.
All I can give is opinion based on my experiences. |
Me too. o) And also lived in NYC
