8hr stop over in LAX, what to do?

Any ideas for what to do for 8 hrs close by to LAX? Are there any discount shopping outlets nearby?
Thanks

Bear in mind that this might end up being less than 8 hours with flight delays, getting through the airport, getting back through security, etc. When I have a long layover in LAX, I go to Encounters restaurant for some real food and drinks and a funky Jetsons atmosphere. That said, here is a site which gives you some suggestions (though how you will get from the airport and back is another question...) http://losangeles.citysearch.com/rou...s_visitors_4_1

Good luck.

Manhattan Beach is close to the airport with beach, restaurants and a short taxi ride to and from. Maybe it would be helpful to have a cab company phone number to pick you up for your return to LAX.

You can take a cab to Santa Monica. Walk to the beach, see the Pier, have lunch and walk around the Promenade.

From LAX to the Santa Monica Pier Area, you can board a LAX Shuttle #C to the Bus Depot. Then board (The Blue Bus) Santa Monica Bus #3 to 4th St and Colorado Blvd. Not sure of the fare - 50 cents?

Try to check your luggage before going out to play...and watch your time.

THis happened to me coming home from Maui. I rented a car for $20, drove to Santa Monica. Shopped, walked around and was all alone. Felt very safe and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Thanks for the help guys. I will check out the link and see what I can find. Hiring a car sounds good too.
Thanks again.........
