Barbara what is up your butt?
You are strange people, some of you. Seems like you are taking everything too literally. I am not a convict and you are not a judges. Why so harsh? Dollar is falling and you can't travel? I understand. So let me say I had used 'his dream' only because he mentioned it a few times. All because his neighbor and relatives went a few years ago. He seemed never mentioned anything else but it is just because he is not a big on travel. He had heard 'Alaska' - he keeps talking about it. I think if he had heard 'Tanzania' - he would be talking Tanzania. Would you suggest I go than as well? I still appreciate your info but so far we are stuck. On Alaska! Can we please, move off the dead horse onto another one? Thanks |
Yep. If you would have said "Tanzania" was "his dream" we would, most likely, agree that Tanzania it should be.
Why would you be so rude to people who only wnat to help? And why aim your hostility at Barbara, when she was just trying to clarify what you meant? |
GroupTraveler,
I actually deleted a lot, but as you have been rude to me when I was, as L8 said, trying to clarify, I'll be more pointed. You are coming across as very self-centered. You talk about your FIL as if he's a moron. I find that extremely disrespectful and very sad. If you don't want to be around him and it's too much trouble to arrange the trip HE would want, then let his son take him somewhere without you. The reason why he would like to go to Alaska seems immaterial. |
"His dream is Alaska for some reason but we are not <b>giving into</b> this."
That's what you wrote. Then you wrote: "<b>I</b> just really do not want to go." (You also wrote: "My husband unloaded this on me (of course)..." which also reveals problems.) You're treating this man as if he were a pain-in-the-seat spoiled stepchild whining about a trip to Disneyworld, who needs to be brought into line and reminded that it isn't what HE wants, it's what YOU want. If I hadn't seen other people equally obtuse and selfish here, I would think this was a troll, too. Unbelievable. And ugly. |
Very reminiscent of LooneyZiana.
|
Considering the unbelieveable post of GroupTraveler's on the Europe branch, I am branding OP as a troll.
|
I just looked at that too. Could be LooneyZiana.
|
I don't remember LooneyZiana, but I'm wonder if our little GroupTraveler has set a record for ticking off the most people in the shortest amount of time.
On a positive note, for the OP, we've "moved off the dead horse onto another one". :-d |
Now that I've looked at the Europe Forum, I agree that we've been, temporarily, had. Lack of grammar, spelling, punctuation and abbreviated textual style suggests a rather youthful poster, too. If the two posts are legit, then we have a poster living a weird little life.
|
Another one who thinks this is a troll. Either that or a very rude person who decided yesterday to start posting on Fodors.
|
Having read the only other post by OP, I have to think TROLL!
By the way, Mr. History will be celebrating his 70th in Alaska. A dream trip for him. I'm not all that keen, but since I've dragged him all over Europe for the past 30 years, it's only fair. And, he's included the whole family. And, I'm even getting a bit excited;) |
I personally think that it is a special gift for a parent to spend some special time with an adult son/daughter alone, especially when the parent is advancing in years. No spouse. No grandkids. You could send your FIL and husband to Alaska and you won't have to worry about the inconvenience.

I was really set off byAuthor: wtm003
Date: 05/18/2008, 06:13 pm ... Pathetic & unbelievable! And all I asked was an innocent question. I felt like everyone jumped on my back. So what if I had never mentioned Alaska? I agree, you told me - I am thinking about it. However I am affraid of that place for some reason.FIL had 2 chances to go to Alaska when he was younger - with friends and other family members, he choose not to and now he is keep asking about it so I thought big deal, he already passed the trip 2 times - he'll pass it 3rd! I see you people are focusing more on a poster than a question for some reason. However this place has wealth of information - it has weath of 'other' negative stuff as well. I am sorry if I was rude but listen, being called pathetic by the first poster is kind of hurts! I am alive person as well and I have my own feelings. I was told this place is good but no one ever mentioned it was a 'step carefully to not be eaten alive' place. And honestly I asked numerous times to move from Alaska but no one listened. You can not assume in a short post person can tell a whole family story. Just a tiny piece and not 100% accurate because it is not the point. Point is taking older guy anywhere not too far for his BDay. Period. Nothing else. Thanks and remember there is never 1 person's fault in a fight. it is always takes 2 to argue. Regards |
"And honestly I asked numerous times to move from Alaska but no one listened."
Actually, I had offered other alternatives that were closer to Seattle. But you gave us very little to work with. Do you want a big city, nature? What would interest you and your FIL? Flying or driving? |
I think we should put you on an Iceberg and let you float away...
|
The pressure should be so off you--since it's his request to go to Alaska. If anything doesn't work out quite right--remember, it was his idea.
I've planned my Mother's 70th, 80th and now 90th. I would have LOVED if she said "I would like to you to take me to (fill in the blank)--how easy would that be. And Alaska would be so much cheaper IMHO than Tanzania. ;) |
Don't feed the troll, folks.

Date: 05/20/2008, 11:05 am I think we should put you on an Iceberg and let you float away... ?????????? With FIL? I though you liked him:-) I am not a troll. I appreciate a good advice. I am still waiting for one. Thanks |
What kind of locations are you looking for? Big city, national park? Willing to drive, fly? You have given us little to work on. Vacations that interest us may not interest you so the more info provided, the more suggestions we can offer.
I have asked you this before and you have blatantly ignored them. |
Here we go again. I had not blatantly ignored your questions, I was kind of upset over all this 'welcome troll' posts.
And why are you people so quick on putting lables and being blatant yorself? Don't you see how you come across? Just as same as you blame me for! However i said he is kind of 'looming at things' type of guy. He can fly not too far. He is not a big on walking. Some pretty cozy warm place - I just don't know anything around Seattle area and I asked if there some famous cool places everyone loves, knows and visiting? No camping for us as well. |
