75th & Broadway to Times Square, Walkable?

I can count the blocks, but was wondering if this is a doable walk, before and/or after the theater? OK to do late at night?

We like to walk, but are not marathon walkers. About how long would it take?
It's a straight shot down Broadway, 1.5 miles. For me, that's a piece of cake...I've walked from Brooklyn to Central Park a bunch of times. For you, I don't know. Depends on how much you usually walk. I wouldn't recommend you do it in uncomfortable shoes! Late at night won't be a problem. There will be people everywhere. The walk should take roughly 30-40 minutes.

20 blocks walking north/south in NYc is exactly one mile. If you walk straight down Broadway from 75th to 42nd St you will have walked a little less than 1 3/4 miles. The walk, at a normal pace, will take around 35 minutes.

Just returned from a great 3 day trip! Anytime we asked someone(in a store or restaurant, etc.) about walking to our next stop, they would say, "It will be a nice walk on a pretty day like today," or something to that effect. New Yorkers walk alot! They were "nice" walks, but we found that we had a limit of how many nice 30-40 minute walks we wanted in one day, especially since we were trying to do alot in a short time. We walked almost everywhere we went, but if we had a long trip(20-25 blocks), sometimes we would take a $5 cab ride one-way. Also have noticed that hotel doormen usually say "take a cab." Do you think they have something going with the cabbies, or is it a hotel policy due to liability?
Thanks for the help. One 30 - 40 minute straight walk a day is great, no problem as long as it is fairly level.

When traveling, I'm sure most of us walk even more than that during a typical day, although maybe in 10 - 15 minute increments.

Comfortable shoes are probably the most important part of my wardrobe, at home and for travel. Fashion/blisters vs comfort, no contest.

Thanks for the questions, Pat! This is very helpful info for me too!

There seems to be lots of posts for NYC asking about weather you can walk from here to there????

you can walk from nyc to the grand canyon if you wanted to

the question is why would yuo want to when cabs would be like 4 dollars of a very easy to use subway would be 1.25

The only reason i could see wanting to want is if you want to see the neighborhood on foot

why walk...espically if its suppose to be a vacation

just my opinion

take the subway or take a cab

I agree that taking subways and cabs is often a good idea, particularly when there's a considerable distance involved but... NYC is very much a walking town. Subway stations don't always leave immediately adjacent ot he destination and sometimes cabs are a a bit difficult to catch (certain times of day and whenever it's raining). Cross-town buses can help but they sometimes suffer from the same dilemma that cabs do in midtown - traffic is sometimes so congested that it's easier to walk the half mile or so to your destination! Regardless, even with buses, cabs and subways, be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes - there's lots of walking to do in NYC and yes it is a good way to really see and appreciate the neighborhoods of this great city.

CJW -

Spoken like a true hero of the sedentary life style - why walk, when I can sit on my a**? Kudos to you.

Just my two cents:

I take cabs or the subway when I'm in a hurry, but prefer walking at other times. I miss seeing too much when I'm on the subway, and when I'm in a cab I can't just walk into a place I'm interested in.

Plus, it helps burn those calories from fabulous meals.

Statia, you hit the nail on the head. Of course we take cabs or public transportation when in a hurry or in bad weather.

Walking is the best way to discover a city and you can graze (eat) along the way. Many a fattening meal has been walked off in Paris and we hope to do the same in NY.

Just make sure you stop at 72nd & Broadway to have a Papaya King hot dog and papaya drink . . . one of the great pleasures of living in NY. (Hope it's still there!)

Lots of other great diversions on the way, too.
