7000 mile road trip
 

Just starting to plan the summer road trip from Alberta (CAN) to Florida. Planning on going thru Minneapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, Denver. Yes a long way but we have most of the month of July. Any highly recommended sights on the route that aren't in the standard tourist info? 3 kids 6 - 11.

Rocky Mountain National Park north of Denver is a lot more interesting than Denver itself

Except for zoo and (genuine) trolley rides, NO isn't really child friendly or very interesting. Florda Panhandle or Alabama beaches are a better place for kids.

Have you watched National Lampoon's Vacation? Is this a punishment tour? Would you like to sit in the back seat with your two siblings for 7000 miles when the ac stops working and one of them gets carsick?

Sincerely, I would love to know what you have already planned on such a huge journey for a family of 5. What interests you and draws you to each state, and where in the state are you planning to visit, and why?

The Florida Panhandle beaches are beautiful and the Gulf water is normally calmer than the Atlantic side of the state. Pensacola, Florida has the Naval Aviation Museum which my 5-year-old grandson loves. Entry to the museum is free, but there's a fee to see whatever they're showing in the IMAX theater.

Yes, July can be hot down here -although the sea breezes will keep it several degrees cooler along the coast - but it's not generally unbearable.

If you haven't done so already, I'd suggest you use Mapquest, or something similar, and plot your route. That way you'll know how long just the drive will take, with no layovers in various places to do whatever you want. Once you know that, you can begin refining based on where you want to stop and spend a few days and what you want to do along the way.

You may discover that almost 30 days isn't enough time to cover all that territory and fit in the things you want to experience. When planning our 4-5 week RV trips I almost always discover that my want to see/want to do list exceeds my allotted time and I have to start cutting. That happened to us when we drove up through the northeast and into the Canadian Maritimes last year. No way to fit it all in.
