7 hours in Chicago - what to do?

I grew up in the Chicago 'burbs ions ago but haven't been home in 35+ years. The hubster is from London and it will be his first time in Chicago.

Only have a day (a Saturday) to spend in Chicago. We are taking the train into Union Station arriving around 10am; must catch 6pm-ish departure train.

Seeking itinerary recommendations that might include a good - no, a GREAT - bus tour of Chicago highlights. Obviously, want to get the most out of those 7 hours.

We are in our early 50s and [having lived in London] especially love art, architecture, culture (museums, theatre, etc.).

And - oh yes - go Cubs! :-)

Thanks,

Denise in Charleston, SC

I would do the Chicago Arch. Foundation River cruise. Go up to the top of the Hancock Tower to the Signature room for drinks.

get your river tour tickets online at

http://www.architecture.org/

They sell out sometimes. Be sure to follow exact instructions as to which pier as there are many boat tours and some have a similar name. This is the best one IMO.

I concur with the suggestion of the Chicago Architecture Foundation's River Cruise. However, afterwards, I'd walk south on Michigan Avenue to Millennium Park and, if you had any time at all after that, stop in at the Art Institute.

However, I assume that you are taking Amtrak. Amtrak's on-time performance is not the greatest. So I wouldn't be making plans on having that entire 7 hours at your disposal. The train may be substantially delayed, cutting that time in half.

What were you planning on doing with your luggage in the interim?

Thank you everyone. That tour sounds perfect. Will check out website, etc.

Exiledprincess, we won't have any luggage. It is just a daytrip in to the City from Peru (Illinois) where we are staying with family. We will be in Illinois for a funeral.
