And "the ROW" is?

LoveItaly Dec 3rd, 2008 10:07 AM

The Row is MaryKate and Ashley Olsens clothing line.

Call California what you want jwO721 but I hate to break it to you that cali or Cali is not considered a suitable nickname for Caifornia..at least not here in Northern California.

Stu, I had the same thought after I posted last evening, lol.

"The Row is MaryKate and Ashley Olsens clothing line."

Oh, gag.

sf7307 Dec 3rd, 2008 10:37 AM

And why would the fact that The Row calls it "Cali" be of any possible concern? (I'm obviously very confused....let's see, MaryKate and Ashley are from California, their clothing line calls it "Cali", so that makes it RIGHT???)

janisj Dec 3rd, 2008 10:48 AM

jw0721 lives in Tampa FL fer pete's sake! And lecturing us about what is appropriate to call California???

vjpblovesitaly Dec 3rd, 2008 10:55 AM

I know somebody who calls Tampa Bay Tampon Bay so I guess that is the new name.

sf7307 Dec 3rd, 2008 11:08 AM

I know somebody

Britney Spears perhaps?

MichelleY Dec 3rd, 2008 12:18 PM

LOL!! This thread has really digressed from giving Dave trip advice to tampons in Florida!!

MY

janisj Dec 3rd, 2008 12:53 PM

ah -- but MichelleY, since FamousDave has abandoned us, we can have fun abusing him and jw0721 ;)

StuDudley Dec 3rd, 2008 02:47 PM

Is their football team called the Tampon Bay Buccaneers???

Stu Dudley

jw0721 Dec 3rd, 2008 05:18 PM

thanks jan... i don't live in tampa
im just taking that for my flight!
I live in clearwater
and ROW is rest of world- short cut from economics class
everyone i know calls california cali

and that's a really funny name... ive heard it before....

where do you live jan so we can make fun of that next!

Deb15July Dec 3rd, 2008 05:27 PM

Everybody needs to take a chill pill!

BarbAnn Dec 3rd, 2008 05:43 PM

As a native Californian (lived here well over 50 years) Cali is a city in Columbia.

janisj Dec 3rd, 2008 05:45 PM

He lives in Clearwater! Oh - that makes a HUGE difference.

BTW - most of the "ROW" doesn't call California "Cali" - except for maybe the part that doesn't believe in complete sentences, punctuation or capital letters. Me thinks you spend too much time texting.

jw0721 Dec 3rd, 2008 06:08 PM

i'm a girl!
I'm not writing a paper! so what does it really matter???

I actually do not text... i'm very against it... A person i know got killed 2 weeks ago because of someone who was texting!! (she was only 17 sad story)

and you obviously have never visited Tampon Bay! haha
because if you had you would know the difference between tampon (which is really suitable) and clearwater~

But whatever!

Doesn't Janis live in Syphilis Heights aka Citrus Heights? Hey, just being fair to JW. I have kids - they and all of their friends (all in CA) refer to our great state as Cali. Time to lighten up you old fogies! ;-)

StuDudley Dec 4th, 2008 06:53 AM

When I worked in San Diego County, National City was called Nasty City.

None of our friends (mostly in their late 50s/early 60s) call it Cali.

Stu Dudley

sf7307 Dec 4th, 2008 08:24 AM

I'm also in Cal[ifornia]. I also have kids - young 20s - and I've never heard any of them or their friends call it "Cali". So it isn't just generational (maybe we just beat it into them!).

LoveItaly Dec 4th, 2008 08:40 AM

The young adults in my family (all 5th generation Californians) do not call California Cali either.

Supercilious Dec 4th, 2008 05:53 PM

"Be thankful nobody's mentioned Frisco yet.

Stu Dudley"

I've never heard the term "Cali" used but "Frisco" is a different story. Great singers like Otis Redding and Merle Haggard have used it and Herb Caen wrote a book about it. It does not go away. It's a great word to use when you want to piss off the blue blood, Nob Hill types.
