$691 RT to Honolulu from Baltimore next August 30 w/1 stopover in LA. Good price?
 

We're starting to firm up our plans and we even contacted a Virtuoso Travel agent, but the price she gave us for almost everything was the same we could get or even higher! We got a better deal on our FS Maui room, as well as the Hapuna Prince. She quoted us $871 p/p for the flight while my simple call to United netted $691 p/p AND gives us a needed stopover in LA on the way back for 1 day. It seemed like a good enough deal to just book, but I wanted to ask you folks since you're the experts.

I've heard of plugging info into Orbitz and waiting for an price alert, or something like that, but that sounds kind of complicated for this simpleton :o)

Is this an OK deal? She also quoted Aloha's Oahu to Hilo at $93 p/p and Kona to Maui at $104 p/p. Are these OK prices as well for next Sept?

We just flew to Kona from IAD (DC) via LAX for $601 each. I obsessively compared prices and looked for better deals for months before we booked - and this was the best deal I found. We booked about 2 months prior to our trip - and they never got better after.

You MIGHT be able to do a little better since your final destination is Honolulu instead of Kona - but I would guess all you'd save is $150 or maybe $200 each. MIght be worth the peace of mind to book now.

I'd heard before that if you book through an airline and the price for the exact same flight later is lowered - you can call and they'll refund the difference. Not sure if this is true - but might be worth looking into.

What I forgot to list is that we COULD get the flight for $630 ($60 less) if we fly to and from Hawaii without the stopover in LA on the way back. Did you stop over somewhere, or fly straight through back to DC? It's an awful flight as the evening flight turns into a red eye out of LA. I also noticed it was more expensive flying out of DC than Baltimore, by $200 p/p for our flights ($871 out of DC vs $630 out of Baltimore).

I know we can get a travel voucher from United if the airfare goes down in price, but we hardly ever fly United so we probably wouldn't even use it.

Steve: I've been pricing airfare from Richmond, VA, the most expensive place to fly from on the east coast, I think. For June of '05, I checked sidestep.com and they came up with a Continental flight into Honolulu at $622.00. That doesn't include any overnight stop. You might check it out, or try Expedia. Hope that helps.

Check Continental for your specific itinerary. I'm seeing something like $630 from BWI; and even cheaper from Harrisburg. But that depends on your travel dates.

Thanks rkkwan and Sherrie! I've been out of town for 3 days. We CAN get that flight for less than $690 - but with the stopover in LA, it bumps it up $60 a piece. I'll keep watching it.

I can find fares on Delta with the stopover in LAX for about $660 tonite.

Thanks rkkwan. I see now that there are LOTS of airlines that go there. I just realized that we're flying out of MAUI and NOT Honolulu on Sept 15th. Back to the drawing board! We'll need to stop in LA or SFCA as we don't want to fly a red eye all night home to DC.

I booked our flight for April 2005 last week and was able to get $397rt,pp on American. We used them 3 years ago on our first trip to Hawaii.

Last time though, we did a pkg. deal through expedia-flight,car and hotel-it worked out great and the Waikiki Parc hotel was wonderful-breakfast buffet was fantastic!

Keep hunting-you've got the time! There ARE deals out there to be had!

the tickets we were going to buy were $684 one way first class from boston to honolulu, and $80 from there to maui..but my boyfriend broke his leg so we're waiting a bit :-)

Just thought I would mention that I have been searching flights for months (we are going from STL to Kona in late January). Anyway, when I had just about given up, I happened to try American Airlines to Santa Ana and Aloha to Kona - bingo - Under $600!!! This is for the entire trip STL to Kona! That is GREAT considering I was seeing $627 pp from LA to Kona - that doesn't count getting to LA!
So, don't overlook the out of the way airports. Try connecting up with Aloha via Santa Ana (John Wayne Airport).

We have a few hours to kill between flights on our way and we have to overnight on the way home (which we wanted to do anyway - the overnight flights are killers, avoid if possible).

Hope this helps. Oh, another thing, we booked approx. 93 days before departure and when I checked back (89 days before departure) the fare had jumped $150 pp on the Aloha leg, I did not check to see if the American Airlines leg went up, but it would not surprise me.
You should be able to get a good price to Honnolulu on Aloha Airlines. Several airlines fly into Santa Ana / John Wayne.

Stever. DO THE LAYOVER! The flight straight through is hell! It doesn't seem so bad on the way there because it's early and you're excited. On the way back your depressed, it's late and you can't sleep on the plane because of the "captain speaking" or some kid behind you who won't stop crying. We've done both ways and will continue to do a night in California.

Gee. That's about 6 cents a mile or so. I am surprised the airline is even bothering to fly to Hawaii at a fare in the $600 range.
