6 hours lay over in Miami, what to do?

I have six hours lay over at Miami airport before my late afternoon flight to London, is it worth my while to get out of the airport and see a bit of Miami? If so, where should I go? I have not been to Miami before. Thanks.

I wouldn't for a couple of reasons. Miami traffic can be horrendous and the last thing you would want to do is miss your plane. Also, if you are checked all the way through to London, you would have to go back through all security and sometimes that can take up to an hour. My suggestion would be to have a nice lunch/dinner and get a good book.

Don't risk it and leave the airport. 6 hours is not enough time to leave and enjoy Miami. I too suggest getting a good book and stay put.

Why not take a cab to the Versailles restaurant on Calle Ocho for a great Cuban meal? I've done this during a layover of much less than 6 hours without any problem. The restaurant can call a cab to pick you up and take you back to the airport when you're ready.

I agree not to risk leaving the airport... sorry,

MIA is an EXTREMELY busy, and large airport and I don't think I have ever taken off, landed when scheduled.

Security is very tight as well.
Grab a bite to eat and a cold beverage and read a good book. People watching here is also fun, you will probably see some interseting things :)

I agree that 6 hours won't give you much of a chance to see Miami but it would give you enough time to go to Versailles for a meal. There is more to do at the airport than read a book. The on-site hotel has a health club and outdoor pool. You can enjoy it all for $8.00. La Carreta is located in the airport and can supply your cafe con leche and other Cuban cuisine needs.

Thanks everyone for your input. It looks like I'll have to settle with the latest Harry Potter book.

I agree with TP Versailles its not to far from the airport on sw 8st (441)great food and take out bakery . all the Taxi drives will know the place.it would take less that 3 hours max to go eat and return to the airport.
