6 Flags, Magic Mtn question...
It is in Valencia, I believe. Anyone have any advice on where to stay, eat, and is there anything else in the area worthy to do??? Thinking about going there with the family, with two teens, next week. Could use help in order to decide...

Valencia/Magic Mountain has many hotels. There's the Hyatt Valencia a mile from MM entrance and across the street from the Valencia Town Center. It is surrounded by restaurants, theater and shopping. At the entrance of MM is a Holiday Inn Express, and a Best Western. (Best Western may be fine, but it has been there awhile.) A mile further south, off of the I-5 and Lyons, on "The Old Road", are more hotels - Fairfield Inn, Marriott, Hampton Inn, Extended Stay. The Old Road parallels the I-5 to MM. This area is all relatively new, nice.
As for other attractions, there isn't anything nearby. There is a golf course at the Hyatt. About 30 miles south is Universal Studios, about 35-40 miles to Simi and the Reagan Library, and 45-50 miles to the beach at Ventura. |
My daughter and I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn at the base of the hill below Six Flags a few years back. It's an easy walk to the park (saves you a few bucks on parking) and is a nice place, with a decent restaurant and pool area. I've also stayed at the Best Western across the freeway, and between the two, the Hilton is easily the better.
In the 6 - 7 times we've been to Six Flags, we've never found anything else nearby to do, so have usually ended up at Universal Studios, or driving to Santa Monica and/or Venice Beach for a day. I assume you know there's a water park - Hurricane Harbor I think - next door to Six Flags, and your teens could easily spend a half day there. Have a great time. Six Flags has some great rides. |
Be sure to check the temperature in Valencia for the time you're going. Right now, it's probably pretty hot.

My first bit of advice is to reserve whatever hotel rooms now. We had a heck of a time finding decent rooms for my DH who had to fly there yesterday on short notice. Anyway, he stayed at the Holiday Inn Express last night and said he was surprised at how nice it was. That might be a good option for you with teens since it has a full kitchenette. I cannot remember exactly what it had, but he commented to me last night how large the room was and about that kitchenette.
Another place that we have stayed is the Hampton Inn by Stevenson Ranch. My DH is actually staying there for the next few days. I have been there with him a couple years ago, and it was nice as well. I do remember that there were some chain restaurants (Outback and such) within walking distance, so that might be nice after a long day. When we stayed at this location, we were clearing out an estate for a family member near Magic Mtn., and the drive was not far. Maybe someone else can help with what the distance is. My DH knows the area and was driving, so I did not pay attention to any of that. |
There's plenty of shopping at newly constructed malls in the 661. That place is BOOMing!

Just so you know - 661 is the area code for Valencia.
I have also stayed at the Hampton Inn there and thought it was nice. Outback Steak House is right next door. Everything in this part of Valencia is very new so I think any hotel would be fine. Lots of restaurants but most of them are chains. |
We went to Magic Mt for 2 days, 20 & 21JUN. We stayed at the Comfort Suites in Stevenson Ranch, about 3 miles from the park, straight down the Old Road. Our decision was either the suites or the Best Western, both had AAA discounts on the rooms. We went with the suites - the room had queen size beds, a microwave, a 1/2 wall room with a sleeper sofa. That made a difference, because then our 2 teen age boys did not have to share the same bed - made for less fights at night. The room also had a refrigerator - we definitly used that. It got up to atleast 105 degrees while we were there & the pop & water we bought at the store was very welcomed when it was cold back at the room. The pool wasn't the best - it is somewhat small & outside, but we didn't have time for that anyway. The comfort suites had a very decent complimentary breakfast even for a continental one. In addition to all the stuff they had, hard boiled eggs were also put on the table. Right around the hotel is a few fast food places & an IHOP, with some malls up the street with some other restaurants. Right outside the park is a Red Lobster, a Mexican restaurant, & a place we ate at, & was very good - Hamburger Hamlet.
Because of the heat both days we were at Magic Mt. what we did was go for openning (you may get parking closer to the entrance that way also)stay until about 2pm, went back to the room during the heat of the day to rest & cool down, or go eat outside the park, & then went back to the park about 6:30pm. Your original parking receipt allows you to return once that same day to park without another charge. Also, if you leave the park, remember to get your hand stamped at the exit for re-entry into the park. Watching the Ice skating show inside the park was also another way to relax & cool down abit. It was a good show. You can go to other sites from that area, but nothing else really close. We stayed there for 3 nights, but for the other sights we stayed in or near Santa Monica & Buena Park. |
Thanks all for the help. Looks like we won't be going next week after all. Son was invited to go with another family to go to the beach. But will print off this info for future trip. Your posts have been very helpful. Thanks again.
