6 Days/ Sept 2nd Week : suggestions

I got lot of useful information from the posts. I would appreciate any suggestions for my trip.

Fri (1) : Arrive at ANC
Sat (2) : Drive to Seward and Full day boat
trip to KFNP and night stay.
Sun (3) : Drive back to ANC ( not sure what
other options I have)
Mon (4) : Drive to Denail NP.

Tue (5) : Shuttle Trip ( 12 hrs )
Wed (6) : Drive back to ANC
Thu (7) : Fly back home.

I was wondering
1) I couldn't decide which will be best option ( drive or rail to Denali).

2) Any suggestions for second day sightseeing at Seward?

3) Will I be able to get cheaper B&B since its 2nd week of Sept.

Cheers.

While in Seward, make sure to go to the Sea Life Center. Although small, it is well worth the visit. Make sure to take a peak of the view out of the back door.
In your travels, try to make a stop at Exit Glacier. This is an easy 1/2 mile walk to a beautiful glacier.
Are you not going to Homer?
If you have time, I would try to add it on.

I havent looked at Homer. I will see how I can fit in our schedule.

Which option will come cheaper, travelling by bus/rail or 1 week rental car. I thin it will be around 1000 miles drive for 1 week.

Any suggestions..

Raghu.

The railroad is expensive and the schedule (arrivals and departures) is more rigid. I personally really liked the railroad, relaxing, nice scenary, and fun. Plus since you aren't driving you can take more photos. I got some great ones from the railraod. The downside is that it is slower than travel by car and once you arrive at your distination you are without a vehicle. What plans do you have while in Anchorage? It can be more than just a place to hang out between drives. Also, your trip is short and involved a lot of driving. That is okay if you don't mind driving and if you aren't jet lagged. Don't know where you're coming from. On your drive back to Anchorage you may want to consider stopping by Girdwood (Alyeska Ski Resort), the Wildlife Refuge, Portage Glacier, etc. What do you like to see and do?

From reading posts in here, this is my tentative plan and I'm flexible based on your suggestions.

Sat - Arrive ANC from Raleigh, NC

Sun - Drive to Denali

Mon - Shuttle bus to Wonder Lake(11hrs)
Stay @ DNP

Tue - Drive back to ANC
- Flightseeing with Glacier
Landing at Talkeetna
- stay @ ANC

Wed - Drive to Seward
- Full day KFNP cruise
- Stay @ Seward

Thu - Dog sled
- Sealife Center
- Exit glacier
- Drive back to ANC

Fri - Have options open, I'm not sure if I can anopther day at DNP or Seward.

Sat - Fly back home

I love to drive, so long drive shouldn't be problem.

I have time while drive back from DNP to ANC and I'm looking for activites in ANC.

I will checkout Girdwood (Alyeska Ski Resort), the Wildlife Refuge, Portage Glacier, etc.

This is great.. I'm having much fun in deciding the places.

Also, I decided to travel last week of August, since most of the toursaver coupons are expiring on 31st Aug.

If you like museums there are a few possibilities in Anchorage. The downtown museum is nice and also the Alaska Native Hertitage Center is interesting.

Also, you can wander around downtown, there are lots of tourist options - outdoor market on the weekends, shops, restaurants, sometimes outdoor bands, etc.

I hope you have a great time!
