6 days in Woodstock, NH
 

I would love some travel ideas and itinerary suggestions for this vacation from Aug 4-11. There are 7 of us adults who love to hike and swim. We are planning on hiking Mt. Washington, doing Franconia Notch State Park, driving the highway, and are in general, fairly fit. We like a mix of a good pretty strenuous hike, followed by some swimming and sightseeing. We are thinking about either the tram or train ride at some point. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a hiker but NH news has fairly frequent stories about injured hikers. Make sure you check trail conditions, carry lots of water and maybe get a hikimg safety card. Sorry link isn't pasting. Go to NH Fish & Game website for the info. Some people who have been careless and needed rescuing had to pay costs of rescue.
you are about 30 minutes north of Squam Lake Science Center. Wildlife in matural habitat settings and interesting lectures. We liked seeing eastern coyote in person and hearing a lecture. But if you drive around the Center Samdwich area you have a good chance of seeing deer and bears. The nature cruise on Squam lake to see loons is great. It's a large pontoon boat so get tickets anead of time.
Mountain biking seems to be super popular. Our son likes Loon. He also likes Highland Bike Park in Northfield further south of you in Northfield. They have bike rentals Riding rail trails is also popular.
The Flume os a popular tourist hike thru a gorge and has an interesting visitors center.
if you have any interest in antique and classic cars there are cruise nights in NH almost every night as well as cars and coffee morning events. There are also so,e free outdoor concerts in different areas. Check the local newspaper.

You've gotten some good info already. Just to add - The Canterbury Shaker Village is a very interesting historic village about 45 mins from Woodstock.

Additionally not far from the Flume is Cannon Mountain, and you can take a tram up to the top for the scenic views. There is also a tram up to the top of Loon.

Not all that far south of Squam Lake is Lake Winnepisaukee and we have frequently although not recently taken the mail boat in which you traverse the lake while they stop and deliver the mail to various islands, including some with summer camps.
