6 days and need advise

We are flying in to Phoenix on 11/8. I reserved a room at the Best Western Embassy Park ($55 with Entertainment Card). All I have to go on is an outdated Foders on this hotel. So, one of my questions would be is this still a good choice?

Next, we want to do all we possibly can during those days. I thought we would drive to Flagstaff and use it as a base to spend a couple nights to explore Sedona and ???
We have never been to Arizona and would like to see the best it has to offer with the little time we have. We like to walk bike etc.
Thanks for any help you can give me!!

Hi Tammy. I took your heading to mean you are leaving in 6 days -- does it also mean you will be in AZ for 6 days or how long will you be there?

I posted a trip report in Sept. on the Grand Canyon and Sedona if you do a search. I stayed 3 nights at each and it was wonderful. Lots more info on hikes, restaurants, etc. in my trip report (tell me if you can't find it and I'll bring it up for you). I would recommend trying to stay at Grand Canyon (inside the park) and in Sedona rather than Flagstaff. People will tell you you can't get reservations at GC on such short notice, but they are wrong. I did it, and that was Labor Day week so it was a heavy travel time. There are cancellations all the time. Go to www.amfac.com -- you can try to get reservations through the website itself and also by calling AMFAC directly which may get you more options (I found limited options through the website and more from calling). In GC I stayed in a historic cabin at Bright Angel ($70 per night) and in Sedona I stayed at the Comfort Inn ($73 per night). Both of these were good and well-located, but not fancy, which was OK with me because I was not in the rooms much.

Are you getting into Phoenix late and leaving early and just need a place to crash that night, or are you planning on exploring Phoenix? I just needed a place to crash when I was there, so I stayed at the Sleep Inn Airport and it was fine (very cheap, like $35 I think), but I remember there is a Wyndham at the airport that was supposed to be very nice that had excellent rates (maybe less than the BW).

The Frank Lloyd Wright Museum (actually it's his architectural institute) is very interesting. Taliesen West (sp?) is on the northern edge of the city. The Arizona Highways website offers some good suggestions, too.

Not much in Flagstaff but worth the drive to see the Grand Canyon. We took one night and ate at the lodge and stayed in a room on the edge of the canyon. Room was fine, who needs the indoors when there is something so spectacular outside? Sedona is pretty and no need to spend the night. Lots to do in and around Scottsdale and Phoenix. Have fun.

Sedona is a must. the weather will be perfect for being out doors. Bring some warm clothes as it gets quite cool at night, and bring winter clothing for Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon as it gets into the low 20's in the evening in those places.

If you have an interest in WWII history you could look up the Confederate Air Force Museum in Mesa, AZ. They put on some very fun Big Band Hangar Dances and support a fleet of wonderful restored WWII aircraft including one of the finest B-17 restorations in the world; Sentimental Journey. The CAF is a great non-profit, all volunteer organization with 8000 members and 80 museums and support units in the US and 6 other countries. A very patriotic group whose purpose is to restore and FLY the aircraft of World War II as a tribute to our veterans. They also support the WASP's who were the women who flew the airplanes during the war. Very dedicated people and fine folks to work with! I hope this invitation to visit doesn't smack of a commercial because the group is not in business per se, but a historic volunteer group that I am proud to help promote. Come visit!
