6.0 Earthquake SW of Tampa

Epicenter was 260 miles SW of Tampa in the Gulf! Did any Fodorites feel it? Lawsy...is Bonniebroad there now? She'll never go back with all she has faced this year and last.

The friend who looks out for our boat while we are gone said he sat for 2 hours on his surfboard in the Gulf, hoping for just a little wave, but nada.

OO -- I felt a little vibration this morning and was wondering what it was. Do you about what time that would have been. I'm in St. Pete

I see now it was at 10:56 a.m. I guess I did feel it. Felt like when the Space Shuttle takes off, a little bit of window rattling and vibration, but not much other than that.

We felt it in New Orleans area. Thought it was the shuttle rockets being tested at Stennis in Mississippi. Turns out it was the quake.

They are doing some intense deep sea drilling in the gulf lately. Struck huge oil and gas deposits . . . wonder if one had anything to do with the other.

OK, so here I am in California instead of Florida. Last week it looked like a threat of a hurricane here coming towards San Diego, and now there is an earthquake in Florida. What the hell's going on?

That is very confusing Neo. Is it you, then, who is responsible for these anomalies?

If it had happened a few hours later I would just have put it down to Saints fans jumping for joy!

Maybe it is the argument pro and con concerning Just Airports presently ongoing. A minor board tremor anyway.

I can tell you that it was not felt in DC.

SurferTom and I felt it here on Pensacola Beach. We were reading the paper and I felt a continuing tremor. Our house is on piling so we sometimes feel shaking with testing at Eglin or heavy road equipment rumbling by or even a really strong gust of wind during a thunderstorm. But those are shorter duration and "jerkier" for lack of a better term.

This was a steady "quiver" and I noticed the blooms on my orchids were swaying. I asked Tom what it was, since the wind was dead calm, nobody was working on the road, and there was no sonic boom. He flippantly said, "I guess it's an earthquake." Well....

I think whether or not one felt it had a lot to do with what you were doing at the time. My neighbor who was working in her yard didn't, another who was seated at her kitchen table, did.

If tremblors like this are what we'll have this year in the way of natural "events' I think we'll all take them in lieu of hurricanes.

Felt it on Siesta Key (Sarasota) for about 5 seconds. Nothing major, just little shaking.

I have a construction site right next door so I just assumed it was a truck picking up the trash container but it wasn't and although it was somewhat puzzling, I quickly forgot about the "shake".

Thanks for the heads up.....

I'm in Tampa. I was at Mass this morning so I thought it was a holy thing! jk

I actually felt nothing. My sister is a producer at the local news station and said they got a lot of calls for people feeling it thinking it was a sonic boom. An earthquake is all I need that my fiance is already not thrilled with moving to Hurricane Florida.
