50th birthday in Dallas
 

Three girlfriends getting together to celebrate a 50th birthday. Coming from 3 corners of the country so decided to meet in Dallas. Will be staying at the Gaylord Texan and will only be there Tuesday and Wednesday nights (6/1 & 6/2). So what should we do/see? Thinking about Nasher Sculpture and other attractions in that area, but don't know if that's a must see. What good clean fun is there to be had for three middle-aged moms in Dallas?

FYI - the Gaylord is in Grapevine. The drive to the Nasher is 22 miles to downtown Dallas. I know it is not a big deal, but you definitely need to avoid rush hour traffic for this adventure or you may be stuck on the ugly freeway for much longer than you anticipated.

The GAylord is a nice facility - I believe they have a bar and nightclub. If that is not your style, downtown Grapevine has some nice shops/restaurants to explore. (I haven't been there in a while though)

I met up with some girlfriends for a 2 night stay at the Gaylord and never left the facility b/c we had such a nice visit.

I love the Nasher, and the Dallas Museum of Art next door is well worth a visit as well.

If you like shopping, the NorthPark mall is *the* place to go.

I believe there are some small-scale wineries in Grapevine, if that's something you're interested in. http://www.grapevinewinetrail.com/

Northpark and perhaps the West Village are best for higher end shopping. If you want a lower price point, just down the street from the Gaylord is Grapevine Mills Mall...it has an Off Fifth, a Neiman's Last Call, a Gap Outlet, Ann Taylor Factory store, etc.

If you need to kill a few hours, downtown Grapevine is cute.

If you haven't visited downtown before it would be worth your time. Visit the JFK museum, etc.

For shopping NorthPark is indeed a very nice mall. And as missypie said, the Grapevine Mills mall is right there. Also very close by is a suburb called Southlake. The Southlake Town Square is a very nice outdoor shopping area. http://www.southlaketownsquare.com/ Lots of restaurants there too. Campania's Pizza is good for Italian food. I also have suggestions on smaller boutique hotels, if you decide Gaylord it too large. Not saying anythings wrong with Gaylord.... it's just big!

Yes, Southlake Town Center might be a better shopping destination than the malls - it will get you outside if the weather is nice, and there are lots of restaurant choices.
