Actually this is my favorite recent Village Voice Cartoon

This is my favorite:

26. Smart people are the norm, not the exception. (Which doesn't mean they're sane, but at least no one's boring.)

But - they forgot a major item:

The New York Yankees - heading for # 28 - who proudly play the them from the "Empire Strikes Back". They are not afraid to BE the evil empire (or actually the team that takes baseball the most seriusly). (Why is losing ever good?)

nytraveler Mar 31st, 2012 05:07 PM

OH - and our crazy people seem to have a much harder time geting hold of guns.

Aduchamp1 Mar 31st, 2012 05:17 PM

I am here and you are not.

Tomsd Mar 31st, 2012 05:52 PM

Fear the Angels and Dodgers. :)

suewoo Mar 31st, 2012 05:59 PM

See, y'all don't say the F word the same as we do. It always sounds like "Fock" and I never think it's swearing.

Aduchamp1 Mar 31st, 2012 08:18 PM

Fear the Angels and Dodgers.

We are not afraid of drug dealers, do you think we are afraid of overpaid prima donnas who dress in costumes from California?

Centralparkgirl Apr 1st, 2012 05:10 AM

suewoo - I haver never heard that pronunciation - nevuh!

Maybe we have different ears here :)

Is the corollary to number 26 that when you meet a fellow New Yorker, you do not assume you are smarter than him or her?

Just wondering.

Is the corollary to number 26 that when you meet a fellow New Yorker, you do not assume you are smarter than him or her?

There was no comparative in number 26, but it is like the cliche about inquiring about the price of a yacht, if you must ask, than you do not understand.

A good reason to love NYC: your awesome Mayor Bloomberg!

Tomsd Apr 4th, 2012 06:45 AM

Where was "Occupy Wall Street" on the list? :)

annettafly Apr 7th, 2012 02:25 AM

A fan from Detroit---what? be afraid in NY? Finally made it there in December for my first ever holiday visit. Great! Saw the production of "War Horse" at Lincoln Center.
side issue: Also use NY as jump-off for travel abroad---saves me about $300 compared to flying out of Detroit. I go into LaG for $5 and reward miles redemption. Can one of you New Yorkers explain how to get around the $40-50 cab fare to JFK for my international flight? I've heard there's a way--- take a Queens bus into the city and back out?

Songdoc Apr 7th, 2012 06:10 AM

So glad they included the market at Union Square -- and Russ & Daughters.

But here's a new one to include ... "Pie Face." I LOVED the meat pies at Pie Face in Sydney. Could hardly believe it when I found one had just opened (around 53rd & B'way) -- and two more are getting ready to open!!! These taste exactly like the ones I got addicted to in Australia.

Tomsd Apr 7th, 2012 07:53 AM

You can take the subway line all the way to JFK as I recall. And then transfer to the Air Tran.

A line is it, and also the C line?

For more info - see: http://gonyc.about.com/cs/airlinesai.../getto_jfk.htm

You can also take a bus to Le Guardia, from 125th St is it?

Aduchamp1 Apr 7th, 2012 10:26 AM

To go to JFK you take the "E" "J" or Z" subway train to the Sutphin Blvd stop or Long Island Railroad (LIRR) to Jamaica and then take the Airtrain from there to JFK.

Or

You can take the "A" train to Howard Beach and take the Airtrain to JFK from there.

nytraveler Apr 7th, 2012 03:50 PM

If you mean how to get from LGA to JFK - there is a shuttle bus that runs very frequently and is cheap.

If you mean from Manhattan to JFK - either subway to Air Train ($7 and a litte) or LIRR to Jamaica to Air Train (about $13). Dpends on how much luggage you have and how much you mind schlepping it around.

annettafly Apr 7th, 2012 08:10 PM

Hey nytraveler, I think I just found out about this shuttle from you on another thread. Clarification: I need to go directly from one airport to the other. Got any ideas for narrowing my search down to schedule and location? Do I search for airport ground transportation services? Or is shuttle a part of the NYC public transportation system?

baysidegirl Apr 10th, 2012 09:36 PM

Love it and yes jay walking is an art form.

october_fun Apr 10th, 2012 11:55 PM

Songdoc you discovered aussies and their love of pies I see. As we dont live in Sydney we have not heard of that store so we will check it out when we are in New York in October. Thats if I can get my husband to let go of a hot dog long enough to eat a pie.

ellenem Apr 11th, 2012 04:51 AM

The direct airporter bus between LGA and JFK costs $12.
http://www.nycairporter.com/Rates.aspx

There is a way to do this on public transportation, but it would be tedious, take about an hour and a half, and cost about $7.50 per person.
1. From LGA, take the Q33 bus (a local city bus making many stops) to the end of the line, the Victor Moore Terminal (74th St and Broadway in Queens).
2. Transfer to the nearby E train (Jackson Heights/Roosevelt stop) heading in the direction of Jamaica Center. Ride 6 stops to Sutphin Blvd/Archer Ave (Jamaica Station, which is NOT the same as Jamaica Center).
3. At Sutphin Blivd, ride the series of elevators and escalators to the upper level (follow the signs) of the station and walk to the AirTrain stop.
4. Ride the AirTrain to your JFK terminal.

The airporter bus sounds like the better/easier option to me.

annettafly Apr 11th, 2012 03:32 PM

Excellent! The cost, the link --- Perfect answer, ellenem.
