My Number is:7
Cali, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Virginia, Chicago, New York Where I still want to travel: Hawaii, Lousiana, Alabama, New Jersey, Florida, Alaska, Michigan |
My number is 0. Been to all, orginally from Massachusetts, travelled a great deal as a road warrior for work, and decided to retire in the great state of Montana.
Loving every second!!! |
49, and as soon as they get the bridge completed, I'm going to Hawaii!
|
susanrford - Fargo, ND to Kansas City, KS is about 600 miles on I-29. You can do it in a day. Just make sure you cross into NE somewhere, as I-29 stayed on the east side of the Missouri River. It's less than 600 miles if you go from border of ND/SD to border of NE/KS.

Reached my goal of all 50 when I flew to Nebraska for lunch from Chicago with a friend. Airfare was a bargain so I could not resist!!
|
I'm no where close to you guys, but here it goes.
California Nevada Minnesota Arizona Florida Georgia New York Texas (for a short day) Illinois Wisconsin Indiana Michigan Nebraska Hawaii (planned for this year) Washington (coming up) |
Does Colorado count if I only made flight connections thru DEN (multiple times, both Stapleton and the new one)?
|
I'd say you were in CO twice mrw
Aloha! |
Ok, then I've been to 38. Remaining:
Alaska Alabama Iowa North Dakota South Dakota Nebraska Kansas Oregon Idaho Montana Wyoming Utah About 25 years ago me and gf tried to go to Mount Vernon but couldn't find a parking spot. We did check out the license plates though and counted around 47, including both Alaska and Hawaii. |
Currently I'm up to 32....will be visiting Michigan next month so that'll be 33...
I still have yet to visit the Great Plains region...hopefully soon! |
I'm only at 24, plus DC, the Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico. I am missing a lot of the midwest/southwest/west. I am going to Utah in about 3 weeks. I've been trying to decide if we can fit in a detour to NM (I've been to NV AZ, and CO).
I seem to keep going to Europe or Latin America...I've been to 22 countries so far. |
Interesting thread. Personally, my definition of "visiting" a state requires an overnight stay. If I was there less than 24 hours, as in driving through, or an airport connection, I didn't think that counted.
So, using the definition of overnight stays only, I have visited . . . 50 states It took me about five or six years to accomplish, using vacations and personal time. Nobody so far has mentioned what I "collect" from each state, or at least tried to, from most of them. That is simply taking a photo of the "Welcome to" state signs at the border! |
Well, this may sound crazy, but my hubby and I consider it a legit visit if you've used a lav in the state. :)
I'm missing Oregon, N. Dakota, Kansas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Michigan. So I guess I've been to 39 states so far. I will finish them all some day. Oregon and New Mexico will probably be the next ones I hit. |
I drove across the MA border into Vermont, stopped in a convenience store and bought a mini-pie, and ate it. That counts for Vermont, in my book.
Sort of on the same topic as this thread: I've been to 39 of the 47 prefectures of Japan. |
I didn't really start traveling until I was 18 (never left CA until I was 20!) but I've been to 42 (many on trips as a Girl Scout Advisor). Left to do: Alaska, Kansas, OK, MO, MI, Alabama, CT, and RI.

Like many of you I grew up camping all over the US and Canada. So by the time I graduated from High School, I had covered all but 10 states. Since then my husband and I have picked up where my parents left off. Now I have Alaska, Hawaii, Maine, Idaho, Washington, and Vermont to go. And we have covered all but 2 continents. I hope to cover Alaska and Hawaii on my sabbatical next year.
|
Still need to visit ME, NH, CT and VT.
|
I can't think of a single reason why I should go to ND or AR.
|
I've only been to 32 plus DC,PR, and St. Thomas
Missing are: Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut,Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming. I don't think I have a burning desire to complete them all - though I'm sure they all have something great to offer. The states I'm missing are just so spread out from each other - too many trips to pick them all up. Maybe when I retire. |
