All 50 + DC. My last one was Alaska, which I visited in 2000! My current goal is to visit all 7 continents (5 so far).

march123 Jan 30th, 2004 05:39 PM

Like some of the others above, I am a 46 and it will take a very strange vacation to hit the last four:

Alaska
Vermont
Kansas
West Virginia.

khmac Jan 30th, 2004 05:48 PM

24. I've been to Hawaii and Alaska but none of the midwestern states excluding MN and IL. Being from CT we seem to vacation along the coast of the US. Maybe that will change.

Rob Jan 30th, 2004 05:59 PM

I have visited every state except Hawaii. Visited Alaska before it was a state and twice after it became a state.

NorthwestMale Jan 30th, 2004 06:31 PM

Just last year I got to my 50th state with the build-up of a drive to Alaska, which included taking a photo of the "entering Alaska" sign at the side of the road at about 11:00pm.

The last ones I got to were

Alaska
North Dakota
Iowa

There is a website at www.world66.com where you can print out a color map of the U.S. with "your states" highlighted.

Good luck to everyone who is chasing this psychological triumph.

cd Jan 30th, 2004 06:39 PM

Only Vermont and Idaho to go.

John Jan 30th, 2004 07:55 PM

Been to all 50. Most when I was a road warrior before retirement. Finished with Hawaii last Feb. and retired to Northwest Montana.

Orcas Jan 30th, 2004 08:42 PM

Been to 49. North Dakota is missing. Guess I'll have to make a special trip.

joegri Jan 30th, 2004 11:35 PM

Have done something of a vacation nature with my family in all fifty states. Took us ten years and some long trips. My girls complained a lot when we were doing it, but now, every time we get together, one of them will recall an experience we had while traveling.

jannik Jan 31st, 2004 01:01 AM

mamajo Jan 31st, 2004 03:29 AM

50, finishing up in '02 with a trip out west for our 50th anniversary. And Puerto Rico. Beautiful country. Still more things to go and see, though.

hugglynn Jan 31st, 2004 11:36 AM

This thread is strange because I was just wondering this exact same thing about a week ago. So, you made me have to look at the map and write down where I haven't been. I have 31, with 19 to go. Will need to visit: Maine, NH, NC, Alabama, TN, KY, IN, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri, Ark, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahama, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, New Mexico, Minnesota.

Now my husband keeps one of those maps in our office which he posts a pin in where he's visited. Of course, some of his travels have exluded me and vise versa.

As for me, I collect Christmas tree ornaments wherever I can, especially like to visit Christmas shops in the towns--not from particular states, but most of the cities we visit--so I have multiple ornaments...now, if we would just stay home at Christmastime so I could use them :?

slipperblue Jan 31st, 2004 12:51 PM

I want a magnetic map like a few posters mentioned. Where can I find one? Thanks for the NPS passport idea and the world66 website!

jbrown Feb 1st, 2004 01:33 PM

I have seen one for every year I've been alive, 19 (including D.C). Some of them I have only barely been to. I have seen almost all the west but very little of the east.

Oklahoma (my home state- come see us!)
Texas
Kansas
Arkansas
Missouri
New Mexico
Colorado
Utah (lived there 3 years)
Wyoming
Idaho (West Yellostone)
Montana (North Yellowstone)
Nevada (Wendover, barely over the border)
California
Hawaii
Georgia (only at the airport)
Florida
Maryland (while in D.C.)
Virginia (while in D.C.)
Washington, D.C.

islandmom Feb 1st, 2004 02:18 PM

I believe I've been to most. I can't recall Montana, OR, WA, or WY though. And of course Alaska Guess that means I've done 45.

sister2 Feb 1st, 2004 06:02 PM

39..only 11 to go.

Cassandra Feb 1st, 2004 07:48 PM

Never been in Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Alaska or Hawaii. Guess that makes it 39 but there are some I don't think should count, really ---

Airport only: Texas
Middle of the night on a train: Kentucky
A couple of hours just so I could say I'd been there: South Dakota

Clifton Feb 2nd, 2004 04:30 AM

Been to all of them, 'cept Hawaii and Alaska. May Dad spent the 60's driving us all over creation. We went from St. Louis to California (via Painted Desert) then up to Washington, and through MT and the Dakotas, and home. We were in a Chevy, but I swear that isn't his name.

Hopefully I'll get to Alaska someday. Been heading outside the US borders for vacation for awhile now.

travelisfun Feb 2nd, 2004 06:34 AM

Fun thread! I've been to 40...I'm missing AK, OR, WA, MT, ID, ND, DE, RI, NC, SC. I figure I need to fly to North Dakota and drive myself West to hit those five, then visit AK (which might happen this summer), do NC & SC in one trip, and somehow manage to hit RI and DE together. I want to hit all 50 before I TURN 50. With 23 years to go, I think I'll make it.

I'm a magnet collector, too! Not the state-shaped, ones...just something that reminds me of my trip.

Patrick Feb 2nd, 2004 06:44 AM

I see that I posted three years ago on this same thread. Since then I've added Alaska and North Dakota to my list. So that means 49 -- leaving only Hawaii. Just can't get exited about it. Yea, I know I'd enjoy it, but just plain not excited about it considering how expensive and far it is to get there, and the cost of staying there. I hate resort atmosphere and not into beaches (since I live just a couple blocks from a beautiful one), so I'd rather put that major travel money into Europe.

Ally Feb 2nd, 2004 07:07 AM

So? I've only been to 11, including three trips to Hawaii. But, I've been all over Mexico on several trips, all over Costa Rica on several trips, 2 Fiji Islands, Australia, including a 5 day sail on the GBR and Belize. I enjoy international travel, so shoot me that I don't know my own country all that well.

Ally Feb 2nd, 2004 07:11 AM

Oh, how could I forget? I've been to Bali too and this year will add the Maldives.

BudgetQueen Feb 2nd, 2004 07:14 AM

ALL 50 and DC. Surprising- 16 trips to Alaska. :) But also many trips to W. Europe before I got on the Alaska kick and I'm not even 50 myself. :) Happy travels everyone.

njunderground Apr 23rd, 2006 08:05 PM

50, as of August 23, 2004, Hawaii was my final state...not bad for only being 22 at the time!

marleneawe Apr 24th, 2006 05:54 AM

49. When DH and I return from Alaska in July we have been to ALL 50 states. Not just passing through but visiting and taking in all the sights and history that we were interested in. And we have also been to almost all of the Canada Providence, except Nova Scotia.

tcreath Apr 24th, 2006 07:05 AM

This is a fun thread! I have been to about 40. Missing California, Washington Oregon, Vermont, New Hampshire, Mass, Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, Rhode Island. I want to eventually travel to all 50 states, but right now I am much more interested in Europe, and every time we try to plan a US trip we end up going to Europe instead. Oh well...I'm only 27 so I guess I have plenty of time left!

Tracy

capmunn Apr 24th, 2006 07:15 AM

I agree with tcreath. I've only been to 24 states,as DH and I are taking most of our vacations in Europe for now, planning on spending our "Golden Years" traversing the US.

SuzieTrue Apr 24th, 2006 07:49 AM

It's 46 for me. Still missing Alaska, South Carolina, Mississippi and Arkansas. Alaska is definitely on the short list of to do soon. The other three are in the distant future.

Bobmrg Apr 24th, 2006 08:28 AM

48. I'm missing Maine and Vermont.

Sid Apr 24th, 2006 08:33 AM

49. Missing North Dakota.

JAGM Apr 24th, 2006 04:50 PM

Have been at 48 for a long time. Planning to knock off Alaska this summer with about a 10 day trip. Then I will only have Delaware left.

tuckerdc Apr 25th, 2006 06:25 AM

47 - but after this summer, when we cruise Alaska, it will leave only N. Dakota and Hawaii (funny how many of us haven't made it to ND, eh?) The Alaska journey will also help us complete the Canadian provinces.

This is a fun thread - but one of the best (saddest?) things about its revival is seeing all the (helpful/interesting) posters who were regulars back in '01, and now are not seen here.

lindsyb Apr 25th, 2006 07:39 AM

I've been to 27 but since that is only a little over half, I won't list the ones that I have yet to travel to. Most are in the middle of the country.

enjoylife Apr 26th, 2006 07:00 PM

42 states

I still need Arkansas, the Dakotas, the Virginias, Michigan, Iowa, and Kansas.

EnricoIV Apr 27th, 2006 03:22 AM

46 (plus Puerto Rico)

Missing: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.

Intrepid1 Apr 27th, 2006 04:12 AM

OK..since you asked. I've been to all 50 plus the territories of Guam and Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.

fun4all4 Apr 27th, 2006 05:17 AM

Hi!
So far I have been to 30 states plus DC. That does not count airport layovers or the 8 or 9 extra states I was in as a 2 year old on a cross country trip (since I don't remember it). It does count drive-throughs if I at least got out for lunch or something. I have been to Puerto Rico, but not Guam. I will be in Washington for the first time this summer.

I have been to 10 countries outside the U.S.
Not a bad start, but lots left to do and see!! I often feel torn between returning to places I love and exploring new places - I love it all. Happy travels!

nina Apr 27th, 2006 05:36 AM

I've only been to about 24! I have a huge void when it comes to landlocked states, the only one I've been to is Arizona, Vermont and Illinois (Chicago), been all over the east and west coasts and Hawaii, but I completely skip the middle of the country.

I can't say that I have any desire to go to landlocked states, I need to be near the coast.

toncasmo Apr 27th, 2006 07:54 AM

48- but i have unfair advantage. i'm an air force brat and every time we moved we had to drive to northern woods of minnesota on the way to visit grandma. until a few years ago i was missing arizona (funny my parents had met and married there 54 years ago) but we went to hoover dam (my architect's husband's choice on his 40th birthday so i couldn't say no) from vegas so i walked across the top and picked up another state. made it worthwhile for me!!

susanrford Jun 14th, 2006 04:59 PM

43. Still need:
North Dakota
South Dakota
Nebraksa
Kansas
Oregon
Utah
Alaska.

do you think I could do ND, SD, NE and KS driving in a week?
