5 nights in the US for 50th birthday celebration

We have five nights without kids to spend somewhere in the US to celebrate.. Curious to hear ideas of favorite places where five nights would be sufficient.
We are open to anything.

NYC is the first thing that pops into my head, but without knowing any more information, I could easily name at least 20 other places. (Honolulu, Yosemite National. Park, Chicago, SanFrancisco, Cape Cod, Washington DC, Miami, etc etc.) A few questions that will help us help you...

From where are you coming?
Do you want an urban experience or are you looking for beaches, hiking, rural beauty, etc?
What time of year will this be? Huge difference between summer and winter
Do you have a general budget in mind?
Will you have access to a car?
What kinds of things are you looking to do on this trip (museum, shop, ski, eat great meals, hike, etc?)

Perhaps if you explained why New England isn't working, we could suggest a better plan for your short trip?

From your other thread . . . >>Need advise on how to best spend 6 days/5 nights in New England area. Overwhelmed with all the possibilities. entire US do to you?

W/ 5 nights you could go anywhere. SF, San Diego, Seattle, the southeast, Las Vegas + the Grand Canyon, Chicago, NYC, Washington DC, Charleston + the coast, New England . . . just about anywhere.

What sorts of things do YOU want to see/do?

Just to narrow it down a bit, would you prefer a city, with perhaps a day trip out of it, or something like a national park?

Pick a destination that makes sense based on your interest. If nightlife, then Miami. San Francisco is a great destination for anyone interested in food and wine. Las Vegas is great for gamblers. If you like the cold, maybe even Quebec City. If you really want warmth, look at the Caribbean: San Juan, Montego Bay, and St. Thomas are all nonstop flights from NYC.
