5 days in Moab in October+Torrey?

DH and I are going to SE Utah for the first time in early/mid October. Flying in and out of SLC, staying in Park City for 2 nights and ending the last night in SLC before return... Now trying to determine how to split the 5 days/nts..... We are definitely interested in staying in Moab at least 3 days and could stay all 5... A friend who lives there locally recommended that we consider staying in Torrey at Austin's Chuckwagon. Should we stay 2 days in that area and 3 in Moab? and if so, would you recommend starting in Torrey and ending in Moab?, or vise versa? thanks!

Mid Oct is a great time for southern UT, and for Park City, although you will have missed the peak colors for fall in Park City.

Hiking temps are great and crowds are down by Oct, overall. Capitol Reef is a really great area, but it can be combined with Moab, or Bryce and Zion. There is plenty to do in Moab area for 5 days and you have a short trip.

I would save Capitol Reef for another visit. Torrey is a very small town and the few restaurants close mid Oct. austins chuckwagon is a nice place, but there are other options such as some very nice B&Bs, cabins, and lodges too.

thanks Dayle! Yeah, I looked a little more into Torrey and the Austins CW and decided against it. plus the distances may be a little far. We have a reservation for the last 3 nights at Sunflower Hill. Now I'm looking to change the plan and go elsewhere those first 2 nights. Any other recommendations?

Patty

You could still go to Capitol Reef and Torrey if you check the closing dates for restaurants. If you like B&Bs, check current reviews for the Skyridge Inn. I havent stayed there for a few years, but its a nice place.

Honestly, I would highly recommend staying your full 5 nights in Moab. That is absolutely not too long! There is so much to do. Hiking, rafting, off roading, canyoneering, horsebackriding, photography, and more exploring and hiking. So many Arches, so little time!

Patty,

I would stay at least 3 days in Moab. Do Arches, Canyonlands Island in the Sky District, drive up 128 to Fisher Towers, drive down Kane Creek road and see the petroglyphs and the crazy off roaders, and/or Potash Road, if you have more time head down to Canyonlands Needles District.

Is this your thread as well http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...ip-to-utah.cfm

Or is the similar screen name just a coincidence? If you are the same poster, which trip are you leaning toward at this point--one by car or by plane?
