The cherry blossoms may be early this year in Washington DC.

If you are coming into Washington DC, either fly into Reagan National or come in by train.

The cherry blossoms were great last year. But D.C. was pretty cold.

Thinking now probably Key West...flying into Fort Lauderdale and taking a drive.....do I need to go as far as Key West or are there nicer stops along the way...again like good food and friendly accomadations not necessarily a big hotel..

If you are going to the Keys, you need to go to Key West.

Depending on where you are coming from, you should fly both ways, especially if the five days include travel.

Key West was the first thing that came to mind. You will feel like you really got away in a relativrly short amount of time. Weather should be really nice. It is kind of a haul driving from Fort Lauderdale--maybe 3 1/2 to 4 hours, depending on whether you stop on the way.
