4th of July - Madeline Island?

Hi, we'll be in the Ashland/Bayfield area for the 4th of July this week and I'm wondering what it's like on Madeline Island on the Fourth. I've heard it touted as one of the best celebrations in the country, which to me just means I should expect it to be swarming with people for most of the day, and chaos as everyone tries to get on a ferry at the same time after the fireworks are over. Would love to know whether it's worth checking out or not! We'd just be going in the afternoon/evening as we have a kayak tour booked that morning. Thanks!
