4th of July celebrations in Los Angeles

I'm planning a trip to LA around June/July, and I was wondering if anyone can suggest any good activities and events to do on the 4th of July. We're mostly staying in the Hollywood area, but we're willing to explore the surrounding environs like Santa Monica, etc. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Of course there will be fireworks shows in most cities in the evening. Torrance in the South Bay area has a real good one at Wilson Park. The park is open all day with festivities. I am not sure where the fireworks are in the Hollywoood area. As far as the daytime goes - best way to enjoy the Fourth of July is a bike ride along the bike path. It stretches from the south in Redondo Beach & goes north to Santa Monica. The more southern beaches are the nicest with the northern beaches being more seedy like Venice. I would recommend renting a bike in Redondo Beach & driving north thru Hermosa & Manhattan Beach. That would be about as far that I could recommend without getting too tired or sore. The beach & the strand past the beach houses will be full of parties & crazy things to see. Plenty of sun, half naked people, many restaurants, volleyball etc.

If you like parades, Huntington Beach in Orange County has a fun 4th of July Parade. There are fireworks lots of places in both LA and Orange County and you can see them down near the beach or at inland shows. We have gone to the Fireworks at the Rose Bowl in the past and it goes on for several hours with ground fireworks and the regular high fireworks and food and other shows. Some of the beach shows are fun as you can see the one you are watching as well as some others up or down the beach. Just hope it isn't foggy at the beach tho as that can be very chilly and also lousy fireworks.
