4th of July
Where can I find a nice old fashioned hometown 4th of July celebration in Oregon? (preferably on the coast or near the I-5). Thanks.

Please re-post with the location in your title. Many posters won't even click on a post without a location in the title. Good luck!

Corbett, out pas GResham on I-84, has exactly what you are looking for. It has a great parade in the morning, then activities all day long at the school. In the evening there is a really good fireworks display. The first year we went we were very impressed with how much went on for such a small town.

mms: Corbett 4th does sound nice. That may work out as we plan to visit Mt. Hood and surrounding area.
beckers: Thanks for the advice, I'm new and learning how to use these boards. |
If you are going to be around Mt. Hood then Corbett would be perfect! The parade in the morning is fun. It is full of trucks, tractors, and horses. The parade goes through "downtown" and ends up at the school, where there is a huge BBQ set up and some kids activities. The fireworks display is at that school in the evening. Everyone brings chairs/blankets and spreads out on the playfields for the show.

If you plan to be on the Southern Oregon Coast, Gold Beach has a very nice celebration. We were there last year and they had a festival set up at the Port with food booths and music, followed by a great fireworks show. I was really impressed with how nice it was, especially for a small town.
Farther North, Seaside has a great fireworks display each year on the 4th. During the day you could go to Manzanita for their parade - lots of kids riding their bikes and having a good time. |
tracilee: thanks for more 4th of July ideas. I was thinking about Gold's Beach for the rogue river boat trips. I'm just worried that the coast might be very busy on the 4th. Is the traffic generally bad on the Oregon coast in July? Especially around the 4th?
